CPU fan wont work?! Asus P2B

I just bought a Celeron 633 and finally got it to work with my Asus P2B MB (with some help from this forum). The only thing is that the fan (standard Intel fan and hs that came with the cpu) is not working. I plugged it into the 3-pin "CPU FAN" connector and I tried the "PWR FAN" connector too but still no go. My previous cpu was a celeron 300a and the fan on it connected to a standard 4-pin Hard Drive power connector - which worked fine.

Is there a setting in the bios to turn on these power connectors? Or are they just not working?

I had a different fan with my cel-300a which also did not work with the 3-pin MB connector.

Maybe i can wire it into a Hard drive power cord. Any ideas on this? Can i get an adapter to connect this fan to a hard drive power cord? (3-pin to 4-pin power adapter?)

Maybe you are connecting the plug incorrectly? Yes, you can get a 3-pin to 4-pin molex adapter. The cheapest solution would be to fish your manual out and see if there are jumpers or switches to enable or disable the fan headers. Also, you may just have to look through each of your BIOS menus for a setting.

Usually the connectors are always on though -- your motherboard may be defective.

I suspect that the mobo headers are dead. I'm not familiar with your particular board, but any other one I've ever seen has them powered up whenever the system is on. Yes, you can get an adapter from 2cooltek, for example, or probably radio shack.

If you are very handy, you can wire it direct, and get rpm monitoring from the mobo if that isn't also toast. Soldering, or using small wire nuts connect it like this:

Fan red to PSU yellow
Fan black to PSU black
Leave the fan yellow in it's plug, attach to the mobo.

Don't leave any exposed wiring - bzzert! Poof!
