CPU heatsink pre installation Question

I've bought a AMD processor with a heatsink included, in the package at the bottom side of the heatsink, there is a little plastic like pad, do I remove it, and use thermal paste only, or put the thermal paste on top of it, or none of the above and install the heatsink the way the manufacturer shipped it . Input please thanks

if it is a pad, just use it.

If you plan on overclocking, remove the pad and use thermal compound. If you're not going to overclock, leave the pad on there, and don't apply any thermal compound.

Don't use both. I prefer Arctic silver but the pad is fine if you're not overclocking.

You mean underneath the blue tape, yes? Even with modest overclocking, but combined with good case cooling, I've found the pad to be sufficent. For the overclocking insane, the arctic slop is good.

(if they have plastic covers on them?..ive never bought retail haha)

Most popular Compound seems to be Artic Silver which can be had @ various online polacers or your local Guru Computer Place
