CPU Heatsinks: Which One???

I need something to cool off my Venice which will not cost all that much but will still provide excellent cooling. I was looking at the Zalman (copper or AlCu), Thermalright XP90 (aluminum), and Thermaltake Venus 12. Right now, I'm leaning toward the Venus 12 because it's less expensive and seems easier to install. Should I consider the others more carefully, even though they cost slightly more? Will I get noticably better results with one of these than the others. Is there anything else out there that maybe I should consider? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

XP-90 with Panaflo 92mm high speed fan mine stays nice and cool and the fan pushes a good amount of air for being silent.

Wow quick response Is that the aluminum 90? The site I am looking at is xoxide.com, and the prices are exceptionally lower than others'. Still, they offer the XP90 with a Thermaltake 92mm fan and Arctic Silver 5 all for around 50 bucks plus shipping, while the Venus 12 is just over 30 with the AS-5. Is it really worth spending that much more?

Yes it is make sure to get the 92mm panaflo high speed fan, a VERY good fan to combine with this heatsink.

Has anyone used more than one of these heatsinks and can bring a non-biased comparison? That's the hard part, because everyone's going to love whatever they're using. No offense, mOeeOm, I'm just trying to save some cash without losing performance, if that's possible.

Its not that I am biased, theres two areas in a comp I believe it is good to overkill, the HSF and the PSU, better safe than sorry, yes? Oh wells good luck on your build .

I got the XP90RT, same thing only the retail version with a 92mm fan.
Funny thing is it was ~$30 when I ordered it, a few days later it was upped to $50.

I'm very happy with it, haven't bothered changing the fan since the retail one is very quiet and keeps my 3000+ Venice at around 27-28 degrees C at idle and 33-35 degrees under load, and that's when spinning at 1200 RPM's.

Hmm, yeah that was a little out of place. I think I'll go for the retail one that comes with a fan, then I can replace it if necessary. Thanks for pointing out that site pibb, it looks pretty sweet.

Is there any type of fan control with the xp90 retail fan or any other 90-92mm that I can put on it. I just don't trust the motherboard to be in full control. Do they just work at rated RPM always, or will they adjust with CPU core temp?

anythign thermaltake, imo, is LOUD. besides that, thermalright has a better conduction plate on their heatsinks giving better cooling. XP-90 with panaflo, MO

35dB is a little loud IMHO. However if your other system fans are noisy it's a moot issue. You could always 5v or 7v mod the fan to quiet it down.

I'm getting a zalman gpu cooler as well and I have 2 120mm case fans and another 120 in my PSU. Hopefully the 35db won't really overpower any of that, and if it does, at least I'll know it's keeping cool. Since I don't sleep next to my system, noise isn't really an issue for me anyways, just performance.

Another vote for the XP90 its excellent. With the right fan on top, almost an unbeatable combination of price/performance. Not to mention silence using one with a 28db / 48cfm fan so quiet.
