CPU Idle program for NForce?

Anyone know of a good CPU idle program that works on the NForce/WinXP platform?
My CPU temps climb around 20F. just coming out of standby to a normal desktop with nothing running. Since the CPU is really idling in standby it would be nice to idle the CPU down when just a small CPU load is needed.
Thanks!

XP is already doing this in the system idle loop.

I may be mistaken but I belive even though the OS is running the System Idle Process, the AMD processor is not really at "idle"
Why would CPU temps rise 18F from standby to desktop, the CPU fan is even off during standby. I do know that "standby" is a BIOS controlled condition, coming out of standby transfers control to the OS.
My P4 system showes very little increase between standby and desktop leading me to belive there is little change in processor operation between the two states which means the System Idle Process may actually be controlling the CPU.
I'm also suspecting the AMD CPU is not truly at idle because the temp delta between 0 processor load (Desktop) and 100% processor load (Prime95) is only 9F. at the most. My P4 is more like 30F.
Basicly it seems the processor is running hot even when it's doing nothing, voltage is at default, and a good Akura cooler is being used. My P4 idles at the desktop at 100F., the AMD/NForce runs 100.F during standby but rises to 118F. at the desktop, go figure?

At standby the processesor is off, so obviously thatst the coolest it's going to get. When you return from standby, the system has bookeeping to perform, there is no such state as 'out of standby but with the processesor off'. Now the load isn't as high as it as when fully loaded, and the idle loop will try to halt the cpu when there is no other work to do. But these halts aren't turning off the cpu for minutes or seconds at a time, more like a few milliseconds here and there. The temps your showing don't seem that unreasonable (I've thought AMD chips tend to run a bit hot, but are designed to safely do that)

I did find a CPU Idle program. After installing and running the program I found no reduction in idle temps. The program throttled the CPU too aggressivly not allowing programs to use 100% of the CPU so I uninstalled it, guess I will just have to put up with the fan noise.

To actually answer the question:

The website states that it will work on Nforce1. The beta says Nforce2 support.

You need CPUIdle Pro for NT bases OSs.

Try both the regular cooling and the advanced cooling to see which (if any) works.

i know it works great with KT400.

A review on CPUIdle... had pretty good results

ILinky

I have a friend using this on a setup similar to mine, idle temps dropped around 3-4 deg C. That's a pretty good improvement if you ask me.

Using this program affects performance? I mean, the CPU must be calculating something for the program to work, right? Is it very noticeble? How much impact?

I just use the good 'ole WPCRSET to tweak the NB disconnect bit to reduce the temp. around 10C.

But that is on VIA chipset, right? Or is there a way of doing it on Nforce1/2 chipsets?

No, it's on a nForce2.

I won't be responsible for any damage to your hardware. But I've been running it w/o any problems for the past two weeks.

Just run a DC project, keep your processor at 100% and get a constant temperature, and get a nice slow 80mm fan and heatsink, and quit worrying about trying to get the processor 3C cooler, it will work entirely properly up to about 90C anyway.
