Okay, I have a 1.7 Ghz Centrino but the speed is always at 800 mhz thanks to speedstep. I went into Bios but didnt find an option to disable it. So, I used CPU Clock and it worked, but only for awhile. Anyway, does anyone know other programs like CPU Clock?? I mean something that can help me up my speed? Oh, I am using VISTA HOME PREMIUM OS. Please help, this is really getting to me.

Hi! I don't think that you can disable SpeedStep if that option is taken out of the bios. Check the CPU speed when you're at full load. It should reads 1.7GHz. SpeedStep is designed to extend battery life(or save power) at the expense of performance. If you want performance, why don't you use a desktop instead? Anyway, try these links at your own risk. I'm not even sure if it'll work with your system.

There is an 'Advanced Power Settings' if you follow the links in the Power Options (Vista). Maybe you can fiddle with it. But some of the Intel notebooks, from my observation, will still function with SpeedStep even if disabled through BIOS option. (i.e. impossible to disable without 3rd party utility)

But does your CPU stay at 800MHz even when you run, say, Super Pi? Usually once the CPU usage goes over 20~30%, the SpeedStep will immediately takes the CPU to its rated frequency. If your CPU stays @800MHz even under heavy load, that's a problem for sure, but otherwise I don't see anything abnormal.

In my BIOS I believe it is called C1E or something, and it is simply an Enabled/Disabled option

C1E is the Enhanced Halt State, similar to EIST in that it drops voltages and multiplier at non-load times but is invoked by the HLT command.
EIST (Speedstep) is Windows/OS Controlled.
