I have Cool&Quiet enabled on my computer. Will my computer die in say 4 years instead of 6 because of folding? When I'm folding, the vcore is always at 1.1v then jumps to 1.3v, then back to 1.1v

Doubt it. CPU's are built to last, itll be fine for a longer than 4-6 years. Maybe 10? more? As long as the temps are fine and its at stock speed. Itll outlive its usefulness anyway.

Your CPU will be obsolete before it dies. I still have a P3 800mhz which when I bought I was asking the same question, how many years will it last? Well, its still alive, but not of much use, lol.

Yes, I didn;t have time to answer in the thread you asked this in. The only cpu's I have had die were XP1700 and XP2400, and hey weren;t OC'ed, and the motherboard took them out !

In all the CPUs I've owned in the last 8 years, not one of them ever died. Ok, minus a 900mhz duron that I cracked the core on accident. Aside from that, as most stated your CPU will be obsolete before it dies, and rarely they do die by themselves. You'll have problems with every other piece of hardware before you do with your CPU.

Thanks for your replies. I will enable Cool&Quiet when its F@H and when I'm not gaming. Serpentarius you were right. I think my memory controller for my used P-3 died before the CPU, forcing me to get this AMD computer. And if that annoying guy in the other thread is reading this, I do not regret not buying a C2D.

Which F@H is better for me (new to this)

Version 5.03 or 5.04? I don't want F@H to run off my graphic card.

Another question even though I'm starting to get REALLY off topic is what temperature reading program is the most accurate. I usually use PC Probe II and it says my temps are around 25DC idle, but CoreTemp says 40DC on core 0 and 29DC on core 1. Which one is right and which is wrong? Also, what program can I use to check my graphic card's temps and fan speed. Many thanks.

I'd recommend MBM5 for general temp monitoring and "ATI Tray Tools" or the Nvidia "coolbits" registry hack to monitior your videocard depending on the brand. Check out guru3d.com's download section for videocard stuff. Google MBM5.

I have a few old Intel 486 386 cpus and they still run fine. If the CPU are left at stock they will out live there usefulness. GPUs on the other hand may not.

Interesting question. I saw an original IBM PC at the Smithsonian last year. For those of you as old as I, you may remember the IBM PC was announced in August of 1981 at 4.77MHz.

If memory serves, it was an Intel 8088.

This CPU in the Smithsonian was still running with DOS C> prompt and a green screen.

25 years isn't bad. Keeping in mind the max. memory was 640KB which we used to fill up in 64KB increments for $50 each.

Yes, that would be $500 for an additional 512KB. (In 1981 Dollars) The Motherboard came with up to 256KB which allowed 512KB on the add on card. Now, 2GB RAM for $2xx dollars. Amazing.

Of course, there was no hard drive until the XT which was a whopping 10MB. Later 20MB and later XT. Now we buy USB Thumbdrives with xGB and don't bat an eye.

4.77MHz !!! We are now almost 1000 times faster.

Yep, this stuff is amazing. I remember having to put rolls of tape with perforated holes into the latest state of the art computer at my highschool in 1977. Then when I got to college I got to use stacks of cards with holes punched in them to run seriously lame programs that were less than a calculator's same ability to do at the time. We didn't have "word processors"... they were called typewriters, man, I sound like Andy-fvcking-Rooney now.

I worked at several places before a computer became a standard device. And the hell of this is that I am not that old!!!

But the upside is I know computers upside down and in and out. I'm not entirely sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing as I have to fix everybodies computer all the time and since I make it look easy they assume it is, lol. It has provided me a nice living though.
