Never heard of a CPU maing noise before...Its likely your HDD that is making the noise. Maybe run some diagnostics on it, see if it dying on you.

the cpu can't make any noise. it has no moving parts. the sound you're hearing is probably the hard disk. does the noise sound like a grinding sound?

CPU making noise... Sounds to me like the heatsink fan is either clogged with dust bunnies or getting a worn spindle that it needs to be lubed or both.

Might help to check the other fans in your system as well-- PSU fan, northbridge fan, vid card fan, case fans, etc.

Checked all fans, cleaned out all the dust, now it is the same thing, a little reduced though.

last time i checked they dont put speakers on cpu's and doesnt have any moving parts? there is no way a processor can make noise unless its the sound of it burning i guess. but that would be the fire. check out your cpu fan that is my bestbet.

Yeah, try the utilities from the manufacturer's websites. Just make sure that they will just scan the drive, and not destroy the data first.

Or, download and install Everest. Under its Storage section is an icon for SMART. Under that section, click on the drive in question. Right-click, select Copy, and paste the list of information back here. That'll give some idea of the state of the hard drive(s).

It could also be the power supply's fan, in case you didn't check that one too. Or the chipset fan, if you've got one. My NF7-S' fan nearly seized up recently - the lubricant in the bearings was either missing, or else it was of the consistency of high viscosity motor oil during winter in Antarctica. It was amazing it was spinning at all. It's been replaced with a modified heatsink, minus the fan.

Since the noise is reduced after you removed the dust bunnies, then it's definitely the fan.

The next thing you need to do is lube the fan spindle.
