CPU Maxed out, NEED HELP!!!

Hey peeps, its Rebel again.
Here's my problem:

Everytime I open up "My Computer" and "Internet Explorer" my CPU usage maxes out. Internet Explorer responds, but when I open up My Computer, it freezes my comp. Is something wrong with my computer? And why does my CPU usage max out?

Um...sorry, don't know what OCing is. Can you tell me how to find out what my settings and specs are? If you can tell me how, I can post the info. I use XP Home, if you need to know.

ok since your not OCing or OverClocking (raising your comps specs to provide better performance) then it might be a hardware issue

TO make sure it isnt a virus or something of that nature to go www.mcafee.com or www.symantec.com and look for a free virus scan

if that is all fine then list your Hardware info
Processor
Motherboard
Video Card
RAM
Hard Drive
Power supply
stuff of that nature

Sounds like a virus. I had a somewhat similar problem once. Format your drive and reinstall windows.

Yeah, but the whole point for my question is that so I don't have to reformat......

BTW, listen to Metallica "Sad But True" its a good song. Sorry it has nothing to do with this, its just that the song is very good......

But yeah, Is there anything I can do to remove this virus? I got this anti-virus called PC-Cillin and everytime I starty my comp, its like "Virus found: CODERED.C" It hasn't done anything to my comp until recently when my compy just starts acting up. Everytime I open anything, it goes all the way to 100% CPU usage. I barely have any programs on my comp to begin with, hell, I even removed some thinking I was over using it!!!

Also, recently, this thing called "IIEXPLORER.EXE" starts up according to my task manager, but it shows no signs of change in my computer. Its on my startup, and I can't take it off. I never had this when I just got the computer.

Go to www.antivirus.com and click free online scan under virus protection. This will load housecall, which is a free up to the minute web solution by trend micro. Scan your system then clean all cleanable files and delete all uncleanable files. This can all be done from within housecall.

If this fails (and I've yet to see it fail) get yourself a boot disk and backup all of your useful files (mp3's, email, so forth) onto a spare hard drive or USB disk if you can. Then when you reinstall leace that drive unhooked until just you're online and then hook it up and run housecall again to clean any infected files you may have migrated.
