recently computer started acting up. On startup it started saying CPU has changed - update CMOS & save. No upgrades or settings changes recently before this started happening. Now it wont always post - I have to turn it on anywhere from 2-10 times or so before it will post. Bios settings look ok, it is keeping the date ok and I did try reseting cmos (shorting pins on mobo) and that didnt do anything. also currently running default settings and wasnt over-clocking. the bios reports the cmos battery ok - it and pulling it and checking with multi-meter show a little over 3 volts - 3.2v i think. the voltages and temps reported by motherboard also look fine and similar to what they always were so i dont think it is psu
Once it does post it will run fine for hours
Any thoughts on what is dying - I will keep using it for a few more weeks before i can replace anything. If the cpu is fine I may get a basic mb for backup/linux box but dont want to waste money on a gamble.
The cpu is an E6600 and the mb is a biostar TForce 965PT that has been fine for a few years. Didnt see any bulging/obvious bad caps when looking at it.
will probably replace with athlon II x3 or phenom II x4 and a mb that can take ddr2 as I have lots of ddr2 siting around
Thanks
Steve
