The chipset looks like it's pretty overclockable. The board has voltage adjustments for the vcore and vdimm, which definitely help with overclocking. The only concern I see is that it doesn't support dual channel memory architecture and it doesn't have an onboard NIC. The southbridge seems to be based on a older chipset as well. I'd personally go no lower than a 865PE based motherboard, but this seems like a good, low cost alternative.
yea, im just getting a board to overclock my P4 to about 2.2 GHz, using the same memory, same parts, same everything else, and im gonna wait out until PCI-E, and newer processors.
Instead of that - look for a BH7 - Newegg should have for less than 80 and may have some refurb's for even less. Much more stable than the other board.
848 is plenty for overclocking a 400mhz CPU. i848 chipset is just the 845 officially bumped up to support 800mhz system bus or 200FSB. For overclocking a P4 FSB 100mhz CPU
nothing beats these on value
Why hasn't anyone told this guy that a 1.8A can overclock as high as 2.8ghz? Probably not with that board, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it go as high as 2.5ghz or a little more, with a good heatsink...
I picked up an Asus P4XP-X (845 chipset, the older version of the 848) in their refurb section for $29 and it OCs to 185FSB. I'd wager that the 848 could get to at least 225 or so. It would probably be good for the components that you have.
HOWEVER, if you're planning on using your Dell case, make sure to change the power supply as dell uses proprietary pin outs for the ATX header. I think there are some articles on how to change them around and I think some places sell converter cables.
Yeah you can OC
I Oced my ECS 848P-A with Intel P4 2.4Ghz Prescott 533Mhz FSB CPU to
3.02 Ghz without raising the voltage and no problem runs good.
just need a better heatsink.
I have the same MB from Fry?s. How are you overclocking? I don?t even have a clock ratio in my BIOS. I have a 2.8 P4 which is supposed to have a FSB of 800 but the clock only goes from 0-250. Any Ideas?
laboo i'm thinking about this combo for 109 at frys. does this board have pci/agp lock? what fsb are you running this system at ? 166?
at this fsb are the pci/agp bus overclocked?
