Ok, I'm buying the parts. When I see "AMD Athlon XP2600+ (1.91Ghz) Barton 333FSB retail" Is this mobile? Beacuse I look under the Athlon MP's and I see nothing. What does AT mean by Mobile AXP?

I am getting the idea that Mobile AXP = MP. I believe I am wrong.
Does Barton = Mobile?

So when I see the word Barton, is that the mobile one, or just a regular kind?

Next question (memory):

The specs just said 333FSB. Why am I getting PC3200 Ram? Isn't that DDR400? Shouldn't I get PC2700 (333) instead?

Should I get dual channel or regular memory? What brand should I get?

I believe that is a mobile chip. Mobile XP's need less voltage and put out less heat, allowing for bigger and badder overclocks. They're denoted by "XP-M" - Athlon MP is "MultiProcessor" and isn't worth the price premium, since many boards can run 2 XPs with slight modding.

Barton is the core type - like Thoroughbred, Palomino, Thunderbird, etc. They can be desktop or mobile chips.

On to memory. 333FSB is the stock FSB speed for that mobile Barton. If you don't overclock that to 400FSB, Baby Jesus will cry. Seriously. He hates seeing Athlons not being overclocked. The price difference between DDR333 (PC2700) and DDR400 (PC3200) is basically zero. Buy the 400MHz RAM and you'll be able to get to that 400FSB easily.

For more info about RAM, click here.

Basically, buy a pair of the best brand-name lifetime warrantied RAM that's DDR400. This will let you run in dual-channel mode, and as shown by the thread above, "Low Latency" or "Enhanced Timing" RAM simply isn't worth the money.

Thanks for the link, I'll read that. Actually, that specification didn't have XP-M, so I believe it's not the Mobile? Thing is, I WANT the mobile so I can exactly OC to 400FSB.

Now dual channel or single channel? what's the difference?

This will let you run in dual-channel mode, and as shown by the thread above, "Low Latency" or "Enhanced Timing" RAM simply isn't worth the money.

So are you saying that Dual-channel is expensive and don't buy it?

Thanks!

No, I'm saying that "low-latency" RAM isn't worth it.

512MB DDR400 "Value RAM" ~= CDN$96
512MB DDR400 "Super Turbo Type-R OMGWTFBBQ RAM" ~= CDN$126

Dual-channel is more debateable. It only offers maybe about 5-7% increase in throughput in most real-world applications, but since it's often cheaper to buy 2x512MB than 1x1GB, dual channel makes sense.

How about 2x256MB sticks? Or should I just go for the 1x512?

Just read the THG on the sempron. Thankee.

Mobiles don't come in 1.65 volt flavor.

Go over to excaliberpc.com and pick up a mobile 2600+ with IQHA stepping. They're considered quite good for OCing

It's a toss up. On the one hand if you buy 1 X 512MB, you can later add another 512 stick and then go DC. On the other hand, if you get 2 X 256 you can run DC now (yeah, even if it's only 5% perf. increase, for me that beats zero) and later you can add a 512MB to go with theother two in DC for a system total of 1 gig.

AMD Mobile Athlon XP2600 Processor(Tray) (IQYHA: 0401 XPMW)
$110.00
AMD Mobile Athlon XP2600 Processor(Tray) (IQYHA:0401MPMW)
$110.00

What? Which one? Both look the same to me.
================

What's the difference between AQYHA and IQYHA?

================

One more question. Monarch has the NF7-S here for 68.00 here

While newegg has it for $92? here

But when you search on newegg, there is no NF7-S? here

Why is there such a huge price difference? OEM/Retail? All and all, that's $30 (About $40CDN) just for a box and some stuff...
(BTW after research, the cheapest stuff is from Newegg.)

What? Which one?

I don't know the diff is between xpmw and mpmw (maybe the fab plant??). Checked my receipt. Mine's a MPMW

What's the difference between AQYHA and IQYHA?

I've always heard the IQHA OCs better. Diff might be the AQYHA is a 35 watt instead of a 45 watt
