I realize that the P4 has built in thermal protection on it via throttling (I think). My question is when the protection kicks in. My CPU load temps max at around 65-66 degrees Celcius on my P4. My new HSF (Volcano 7+) is on the way, but I'm wondering if it will help my performance any. When running 3dmark 2001 during the tests towards the end, the frames "studder" about once every second. This never happened on my Athlon system (1.33 Thunderbird).
My system details:
Epox 4G4A+
P4 1.8A @ 2.6 (Vcore 1.675)
Retail HSF
512 MB C2 Corsair XMS 2700
Radeon 8500 OC'd at 290/290
Any advice you guys have would be appreciated. Thanks.
Edit: Thought I'd mention that other than the visual slowdown in 3dmark it is completely stable (Prime 95 for 12 hours).
