What is the best method for determining the temperature of my cpu??? I have the Soyo K7VTA-B mb w/700 Duron. During boot up it shows the cpu and temperature, but I don't want to have to re-boot everytime I want to check the temp (experimenting with multipliers and voltage; hopefully there's a software solution that I haven't found yet. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

They make a few programs that access the BIOS through software instead of shutting down, hard part is depending how real that temperature is! my mobo isnt great at sensing this, as i have an external Temperature monitor in my computer...i can always use that, but they are pricey, where as SiSoft Sandra (availiable for free download, limited version at www.download.com, limited by what it does but includes a temp area)
good luck

this particular mb seems pretty complete; in CMOS I can determine rpm's on the cpu fan and can even incorporate a secondary fan if necessary. Considering that my 700 is running very stable at 850 with only a minor voltage increase, the temps are still below 31 C.,.....if the info displayed in boot-up is accurate.

thanks for the feedback jscobie.

any others????

Do a search and download Motherboard Monitor. It's a great free program packed with features that can stay running in the background and alarm you and even shut down the computer when a parameter is reached (i.e. high CPU temp).

ok in Sandra2001SE go to the CPU&BIOS info module...then scroll down a tiny bit and its in the Environment monitors area...thats for the CPU core temp.
for all of the sensors click on the Mainboard info module, scroll down and its in the Temperature sensors area...
this might be a newer version i have, but its the freeware one available for free downloads...i also run an MSI k7t-Pro2A...but i see it clearly here, and its usually about +/- 0.3 degrees from the BIOS readings, and its about +/- 0.2 from the external monitor i have....
