Hi all,
I recently built a new system and would like to try overclocking it a bit. As the title states, I went with an E8500. A few friends said the Xigmatech 1283 was a great silent CPU cooler so I went with that. I also bought the retention bracket to put less stress on the motherboard.
According to RealTemp, my idle temps for Core0 and core1 are 34C and 42C respectively. I did a bit of research on what the temps should be with this setup and they both look to be a bit high. Also, the variation between the two core temps concerns me. I used AS5 as the coolant. My one concern when installing the Xigmatech w/ the retention bracket was that the screws never tightened much at all. I must have made about 20 revolutions with each screw and none of them really tightened. I know that the retention bracket is aligned with the holes on the motherboard, so I expected it to tighten. The Xigmatech felt pretty sturdy when I was installing the fan on it, though.
Anyways, do you guys think I should try overclocking it as is, or should I reseate the Xigmatech and re-apply the coolant? This is my first time overclocking, so it is going to be quite the experience. I have already read through Graysky's handy overclocking guide a couple times, so I just want to make sure I am working with normal temps before going any further.
