CPU temps

Hey guys. i have a coolermaster hyper tx2 cooler for my E8400. Core 1 is idling at 40*C and my core 2 is idling at 44*C. Is this normal? seems a bit high to me... also the voltage for my vcore is significantly lower in cpuz than what i actually set it to in the bios. why is that?

checked the temp with everest, speedfan, and coretemp. everest and speedfan had the same temps and speedfan was wayyy off at like 35*C load. what do you think is up?

I'm gonna have to go with the standard reapply the heatsink, check the mount and flatness and be sure to properly apply your thermal interface material.

Other than that, I have no personal experience with the TX2 but i've seen lower idle temps from a stock fan/heatsink so IMHO something isn't right.

ive reapplied a couple times. and i have thought about putting the stock cooler back on a couple times. i really hate the push pin design they have going here. i feel like im going to snap my board in half when i have to push down on the stupid pin so hard and have the time only 3 out of the 4 pins actually 'snap" in place. at least one always just seems tight enough. that might be the problem but i have no idea.

Did you pull the mobo to install the push pins? Most of the time it's best to have the mobo out to ensure you get them all the way engaged.

lol was actually just thinking of that. will do that now and see what happens to my temps.

alright. i took a picture of my temps in bios on stock settings: let me know if these seem right. its about 20*c in my room. but im not sure if the bios is reading them correctly.

mine idles about 30-32c in coretemp, up to 52c or so max at full load but i'm oc'ed from 2.3g to 3.5g.

hmmmm. why is mine so high then? i even put a thermaltake 92mm fan on my heatsink instead of the one it came with. i just dont get it

My E4500 at 2.7GHz idles at 17-18 degrees using an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro.

Depends on his room ambient.

Our room ambient here is about 65F, so 17 to 18C is not far off.

The TCASE on many of these processors comes so close to room-ambient that it is difficult to distinguish.

In addition, I've noticed that there may be more of a bias downward in idle temperatures than in load temperatures, or an equal bias. But I thought I saw cores fluctuating beyond a 3C downward error at idle, while at load, the 3C bias was fairly constant.

A lot of people are having trouble with accurate temperature readings with certain motherboards or chipsets, and newer processors. At least, that's my off-the-cuff evaluation from posts here in the last couple weeks. And a lot of people are having some trouble with the push-pins on the stock coolers. EVEN I had trouble with them, but for having tested cooler solidity aver hearing all four pins "click" into place.

I can get my idle much lower as well if I let the ambient room temps drop to about 15-18c. With your room temps at about 20c and your idle temps so high, I suspect comething is definately not right.

What TIM are you using? Did you check the flatness of the heatsink base? Maybe try a bolt through kit? http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/lgbowiscsp.html

i have tried using AS5 and AS ceramique. also will that bolt through kit work on anything or just the stated hs'? because i dnt have a top plate that would support the backplate. the flatness is pretty much on target.

that bolt kit is supposed to replace the pins. I ordered one myself to get me a more solid mount on my Freezer 7 pro.

will work with a variety of heatsinks

No, there are instructions out there somewhere that shows you how to disassemble them.

I'm too lazy to find them, maybe the thermalright website? I honestly forget.

Try using a thin layer of paste.
Take a small bead of paste (about size of pin in thickness)
use a flat edge such as credit card. Hold it at a 45 degree angle and spread a thin even layer of paste across CPU. then reseat the CPU cooler.
Also you do know that according to the Artic silver web site it takes up to 200 hours of burn in for the user to achieve maximum cooling. During this "200" hours your CPU temps will raise and fall and not stay constant.
