CPU Temps?

acording to my EVGA motherboard my cpu hovers around 49 C i am runing a stock fan one that came with the 3000+ chip although it seems to be runing hot. The air comeing off the Heat seank is pritty cool and the sink it self doesn't feel hot less i am not fealing the right spot. Idea's? i sure hope my chip is not takeing all the heat was first time build so... what can go wrong will go wrong in my case.

I'd try remounting the heatsink and using AS5. I definately think something is wrong in your system because my 3200+ Vience (OC'd to 2.6 GHz with stock HS/fan) idles at ~40C and loads in the low 50's.

But if you remount and the temps are the same I'd say something is wrong with the temperature sensor on the board. I don't know much about the eVGA boards but some boards can be as much as 10C off (MSI K8N Neo2).

OK -- first-time builder. I think the other poster is fairly correct, but check see if your HSF is properly mounted.

Frankly, even with AMD I wouldn't bother with the stock HSF assembly -- I'd spend $30 or $40 and get one of the recently introduced heatpipe coolers, and use Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste.

One way of testing the processor temperature readings is to get a simple digital thermometer -- LCD readout -- and tape the thermal sensor to the bottom of the Heatsink as close as possible to the processor without allowing it to get pinched between the CPU and the heatsink. The reading will not be the SAME as the processor's own sensor reports in the operating system or as reported in BIOS. The processor's sensor should report a reading maybe five to eight degrees F higher than the thermal sensor wire taped to the heatsink.

Probably -- take a look at the "Cases and Cooling" forum. There are several ongoing discussions there, and people bringing with them problems no different than what you imagine yours to be.

EVGA mobos have a known temp bug. Some have been known to have differences in temp of up to 15C. EVGA is supposed to be coming up with a bios fix for the problem.

If i was to mount a after marked fan and use arctic silver 5 thermal paste how do i go about cleaning off the goop and junk on the Chip? i certenly will not be OCing with my temps under debate. i cheaked the clips on the Heat senk and all seem to be in right postion with the locking handel Down.

Use alcohol and coffee filters to clean the CPU in preparation for your new heatsink.

Check out arctic silver's website on specific instructions for applying AS5 (it's different than the other versions of arcitc silver).
