i already replaced my stock hsf with a vantec hsf and applied thermal compound. previously it said 50 degrees when idle.when i turned on the computer, i was delighted to see 35 degrees. but after installing windows it again rose to 50 degrees. what should i do?

Tell us what the CPU is, and how much case cooling you have.

Have you checked the HS is on the right way round as well?

yup i followed every instruction. but i think i applied more thermal compound than necessary in the cpu core. i also applied the arctic silver on my vantec hsf and wiped it off.

50C idle is fine. I get 65C load on hot days. I doubt that your loud temps would be that much higher. It also depends on your motherboard's thermistor's calibration though, I'm using an Abit KR7A-Raid, and you are using some MSI board, so what's acceptable could be different. I've read that CPU's should be safe up to 90C.

i am sorry but i am not really comfortable with 55 degrees. we have aircon in our house, how come it shows the cpu too hot. should i reapply thermal compound and reinstall the hsf?

Take the side off your case and see what your temps are. If they go down dramatically, you know you have inadequate airflow in your case.

How long has the thermal compound been on? Arctic Silver usually takes a few days to work well.

Your CPU temperature is fine. Unfortunately, the AMD chips run a bit hot - nothing to worry about like the others have said.

Alright, this calls for drastic measures.

1) Purchase a Thermalright SLK-900 heatsink. Install.
2) Buy as many Vantec Tornados (119 CFM) as your case will hold, including one for your CPU.
3) Bolt computer securely to desk to prevent it from flying across the room when you power up those fans.

Everything should run nice and cool. Computer will also double as a box fan.

Seriously, don't worry about it. If it's really bothering you, get another case fan or two and tidy up your cables, it sounds like you have case airflow issues.

Yeah, you still can. Cooler temperatures generally allow for higher overclocks, but you should still be able to OC. Just do it slowly, and make sure the system is stable before you increase speeds.

overclockers.com forums perhaps? and if your cpu runs that hot at stock, sorry, it sounds like overclocking is out of the question for you. vantec hsf? you should also look at whats written on top of your cpu to find out what stepping it is.

Liquid nitrogen cooling might even be needed lmao

I would definitely test the processor in a different motherboard as the motherboard temperature sensor may be incorrectly identifying temperature. I had an Abit NV7-133R which would give me idle temperatures of 65 and load temperatures of 75 and higher. This was after remounting the Thermaltake Volcano three times and reapplying Arctic Silver III three times. I then got a new Abit motherboard and idle temperature is 45 and load around 55...

Good luck sir.
