Any component inside the case can effect the overall case temp and thus the air used by the cpu hsf to cool itself. That being said you sys temp is just 1-2c higher then mine and I idle with a 1.6@2.74ghz w/ 1.71v at 39c.....

You are using the retail hsf, right?? The rpm is a bit low compared to mine. Or is it a 80-92mm fan on after market hsf???

The reason I ask is that I am trying to ascertain if you used the thermal pad on the rtail hsf or if you had to apply your own thermal material and thus may have done it incorrectly....Too much artic silver or any thermal compound can make thermal transfer worse...After market hsf sometimes may not make good contact....

Fill in the blanks here!!!

Also I want to note that in most instances asus p4 mobos have showed cooler temps compared to abit, msi, and a few other motherboard brands...

i'm using the Retail Cooler i think the one i had is the 80mm , there was a black sheet under the retail cooler, i had take it off, but i didn't realize that black sheet is kind of mell all the black ink has attache into the CPU and the Cooler itself, i dont have any thermal materia..but do u suggest i buy a Aftermarket CPU cooler, what brand/ stuff do u recommand the most,

I am a little lost...

You removed the small square patch under the base of the heatsink??? If so...Yes you need to have something there....Ie artic silver 2 or 3....lightly applied with an old credit card or something to the point it is smooth and almost transparent but not....

If you removed hsf now to look at it or have so in the recent past, es you need to totally remove the residue from the bottom of the heatsink and on the top of the cpu....Use rubbing alcohol or similar product. Then reapply the as 2 or 3 like mentioned above.

If you have not removed the theraml pad and have not removed the hsf from the cpu since you began operating it, I would still remove it...remove reminence of pad and reapply a new as2 or 3 compound.

If that doesn't help the temps then start looking at the heatsink rentention clip and make sure nothing is keeping you from sitting flush to the top of the cpu...

Ultimately what we want for you is high 30's to mid 40's and under load to not go much past low 50's to mid 50's. If you plan on ocing any we need them even lower and if we can't you may need to look at an aftermarket cooler. As for now there is no reason why that retail cooler can't be totally effective...

thermal paste tip:

place a baggy over your finger and use a dabbing method to spread it out evenly over the heatspreader.
you only need enough to "color" it like paint, no more ~ im talking a very very small amount

52c thats fine, how high does it go up too? I have thunderbird 1ghz with a cheapo volcano 5 cooler that does 50c idle and 66c max load. Its been running rock stable for over 2 years now. THe main thing is: does your system seem unstable?

We are not talking apple and apples here...Tbirds and .13micorn p4's are 2 totally different things....52c idle is high at default vcore and retail hsf. In most cases if he was to rpime load it I bet he would be low to mid 60's. Thermal throttling can take place in the 66-70c range. If this is all true then he really has no room to take advantage of the ather easy ocing the p4's offer. At those temps I would say his ocing could be quite limited.

foreversong.....

What are the temps now with the AS??? Have you loaded this cpu with prime95. If not let it run for 30 minutes and look at the highest temp.

Also you are using the asusprobe right??? make sure there isn't an update for that program....May look at MBM (motherboard monitor) and see if you get any differing results.

One thing if you just applied the AS then it does often have a 3-4 day cure time if you load her up a bit...
Could go down 2-3c at idle....

Also make sure you are checking temp at idle in windows as well...

I am not quite sure what you meant....

Prime95 ran for 20 minutes with no errors??? If so that is great...look at the temps under load....

Please clarify!!!

Load that pcprobe program so you have temps given and updates per second in the windows environment.

English is not your first language right. Well anyway just make sure you do a good job or putting on the thermal paste and as long your system is stable dont worry about it.

Did you make sure to totally remove the thermal gunk that was on the bottom of the CPU and clean the surface before putting Arctic Silver on the heatsink?
