CPU unstable at 47C?

I have a Duron 1gig @ 1.75V that I've overclocked to 1250 @ 1.9V. I can run Sandra, Prime95, or Folding@Home all day without any trouble. However, with warmer weather recently my CPU temp is reaching 47C (system @ 27C). After a few minutes at 47 the computer usually reboots.

Tried raising vcore, but this just causes it to hit 47C sooner and then it still reboots. Even if the mobo had 10C error, I don't think 57C should be a problem.

Any ideas?

If there is anything obvious from reading these forums, it is that all cpus are not the same. Some run stable at 60C, some don't.

I suggest a more efficient heatsink/fan and better air-flow through your case for more enjoyable pc use through the summer months.

Nothing pisses me off more than to close for the kill on Heinrich in RTCW and have my pc crash due to heat.

Hope this helps!

My cooling is good. My system temps are ~3C above ambient and I have an AX-7 HSF. The only simple improvement I can make would be to get a stronger HSF fan, mine is only 40CFM but I don't really want a loud Delta.

I'm running the CPU at 8.5x146. My latest BIOS is very aggressive and at 146FSB I get the same performance as I used to get with 156 with identical mem timings (and I now max at 8.5x148 rather than 8x156).

I've noticed that higher vcore makes almost no difference at this point. With 1.9V I max at 8.5x146 (1241), but even with 2.1V I max at 9x140 (1260). Would this suggest I'm pushing the CPU too hard, even though the temps are only 47C? I could try lowering the FSB and keeping the same clock speed by going 9x138 @ 1.9V, or I could clock back a bit and try 8.5x142. Does it seem more likely for the Duron FSB to be the barrier or for the Duron clock speed to be the problem?

Athlons are designed to run stable in much higher temps then yours is running. Mine used to run at 67 and it was very stable (not overclocked - just a poor cooling) I think you should look somwhere else for a cause of your problem.
