Start off using default timings and default 1.35v. Then try 1866. Should boot right up. Then try 1.5v at 2000. Should also work. And then start dialing down timings.

by default timing, do you mean 11-11-11-28? sometime CR shows up as 1T other times 2T, and there's not an option on my mobo to manually control it. I have a biostar tpower x79.

i've tried 13-13-13-30 @1.5v, and i still can't push the memory multiplier any higher.

with 9-10-10-24. i need to give it 1.5v to run 1666.6 mhz.

edit: 4x4gb ram. i'm not sure if this makes a difference. vccio = 1.092v

2x 4GB-1600 Samsung (9-9-9-24 1T, 1866 @ 1.38v)

That's from my rig signature... this was my first ever attempt to OC memory and I've not had one problem with it.

There is a pretty good thread on this RAM over at OC'ers, that's where I got my initial settings.

I would do what cmdrdredd suggested, start with stock voltage and bump the multiplier up. Adjust voltage until it's stable, then reduce latency.

Maybe pull 2 cards at first for experimental purposes; I don't see how 4x would be a problem, but you never know.

It really depends. One memory stick might just not play nice (I've had that happen), one slot might be giving weird voltage fluctuations (very hard to determine).

You could try 2 sticks and see what you can get that way.

The really good thing is the performance difference between DDR3-1600 and DDR3-2000 is small enough to not be a big worry.

To start over I'd reset the CMOS. Then adjust only the first 4 memory timings to 11-11-11-28. I am wondering if maybe by mistake the other settings got changed. Usually it says auto doesn't it?

yeah. if i set set it to auto i can't select the memory multiplier. There's something called the host clock...which i think is the FSB... but there's something also called a base clock...which also seems to be the fsb. this new stuff confuses the heck out of me.
