Just got a Acer Laptop with the Celeron M 520 from CompUSA and have been tinkering and toying with it.
I'm confused because this processor is supposed to run at 1.6GHz w/ 533 MHz FSB (133 x 12 multiplier), but CPU-z is reporting much slower than that. Its showing 1.1 GHz core speed, and a 370MHz FSB (92 x 12). At first I thought this might be some sort of power saver throttling and so I made sure the computer was plugged in and then put some stress on the CPU (played a movie while scanning the HD for viruses). I was getting near 100% load on the processor, battery charge at 100% (plugged in) and still 1.1GHz core speed reported in CPU-z.
Afterwards, I checked the system window in control panel and then the info page in the BIOS and both of them reported that the CPU was running at 1.6Ghz like it should. This leads me to believe that perhaps CPU-z is reporting my frequencies inaccurately. The system chipset is the Intel 943GML Express. Maybe CPU-z isn't compatible with this board?
The full model of the laptop is Acer Aspire 3690-2970 Notebook.
Anyway, any comments would be very appreciated. Thanks!
