there is a montly fee to play WoW?
yes sir. $12.95-14.95/month depending on how many months you purchase in advance.
so i have to BUY the game, then pay a monthly fee just to play it? SCREW THAT!
Don't knock it till you've tried it, it beats the hell out of $50-$150+ a month for tv. Now THAT is insane. The sh!t they have on these days is completely unwatchable. Even formerly good channels like Discovery have dumbed it down for ratings.
Right On! It's actually kind of funny what people will resist spending their money on but things that are normal expenses such as cable or satellite are just accepted. The thought of paying to play a game is a debate that seems to never end but get ready for everything to change....I see shooters and all types of online play shifting to some type of pay-to-play format. Just watch. It may not be pay by the month but some format of continual residual income for the developing house. In the end it only leads to better content, experience, lack of cheating and fun. The ONLY thing I wish they would change is the initial investment should be less. Why should I pay $50 to get into a $13/month commitment. The game should be less than $25 at least but not free. There needs to be some kind of population control or the servers would be unplayable.
I mean if shooters were on a service like this you could have real stat tracking, anti-cheat, etc. The TKer would be non-existent, all the 12year old brats that for some reason want to ruin the game for others would be nullified. Steam could have been close if they would have went a little further like how the PS2 game does SOCOMM2 where your player is ranked and has real stats, can only play on servers of equal skill level etc. As much as I hated my experience on SOCOMM2 with a gamepad (arghghgh) it shed some light on how well 3D shooters could be run if under a game service.
Who can't squeeze $12-13 a month into their entertainment expense? (AND TRUSE ME, you'll be on WoW so much that you won't be spending money somewhere else. Deal if you ask me. I could easily spend $50 at the bar or whatever else. Sheet when my wife and I go to a movie alone that is a $30 affair.) Aside from the fact Blizzard will be reaping the rewards, but obvioulsy they did a damn good job because I tried EQ... got bored, tried UO back in the day... bored, tried Asherons naaaa, tried Dark Age kinda liked that but none of them lasted more than a week for me. This one Woot!
