Perhaps you accidentally bought a dozen double-yolk eggs? It's possible to tell and they are sometimes sorted and sold in packs.

I don't think the embryos would develop successfully since usually a bird occupies the whole egg and consumes all the resources in it.
They would probably have died at some point, leaving rotting twin fetuses in the egg.

There are chickens that only lay double yoke eggs. My neighbor had a woman who worked for him that had a coupe full of them. We got a dozen double yoke eggs a week for years. This is not an anomaly.
