It's an old Dell 6000 (P4 1.6Ghz) that i bought 5yrs ago.

screen still works. theres now a line north to south and like 1/4 inch wide of dead pixels.

How easy is it to replace the screen w/one bought on ebay?

What are PLASTICS AND BEZEL? (its not included says the ebay listing.)
The model # being sold is LQ154M1LW12. It's made by Sharp?!

Your laptop has a high resolution screen, so expect to pay ~$125. and up.
Cheapest I could find on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/15-4-WUXGA-LCD-SCREEN-DELL-INSPIRON-6000-Laptop-/180532033172?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a088c3694#ht_2361wt_1204

Easy to replace, but you will not get the inverter bracket with the new screen. No big deal though, connect the old inverter to the new screen and place it in the space between the bottom of the screen and the bezel.

I replaced the LCD panel in a 6000 a few years ago. It's pretty easy. Dell provides good instructions on how to do it. You will need a small phillips screwdriver and plastic pry tool so you don't break the plastic bezel. You can file down the corner of a credit card to make it sharp and use it as a pry tool. Just be careful when you pry the bezel off so you don't break any tabs.

I talked to a local computer shop before I bought my screen and he said the generics are not as good.

usually the panels are identical.
its hard to explain but the sharp panel could be exactly what was used in that dell and in 15 other laptops from the same time period.

Sharp panels are very good for those. They typically have less leakage/bleeding on the edges, etc.

Be sure to hold on to the old inverter!

Save the old inverter in case you need it. Those were frequent failers (is that a word LOL) on Inspiron 6000 and 9000 series notebooks from 2004-2006.

Looks like a good deal. He shows a Dell part number and has more than one. The seller is located in TX near Dell and has lots of Dell parts so s/he probably picks up surplus parts from Dell to resell. Although I have never ordered from this seller I do buy from surplus sellers like this. I will add this one to my list of Dell parts sellers.

For what its worth, I have purchased from that ebay seller before and would recommend him.
Also, Dells are amazingly easy to replace screens on. That model should really be a snap. Go to it.

If it's got built in wifi, you also need to remove and reinstall two antenna wires as they are usally routed in the bezel or back/top of the laptop lid. Not a big deal. Dell's are great to work on because the service manuals are either online or downloadable.

As Lanyap noted, be patient when separating the snapped together plastic parts. Just keep wedging a small tweeker or two (pry tools) down the crack and they usually separate without breaking.

I've done thins on many Dells very easy, the bezel comes off, detach from hinges, reroute the wifi antennas and put back. I had to jerry rig an old inverter. Just taped it to the back lol. But really spending $200 on a 5 year old lappy, you might want to reconsider a new one.
