to sell large items i.e. 65in HDTV tv, home gyms, furniture, 800 DVD collection, etc?

I am thinking of buying a condo in Florida and am in the process of trying to liquidate all of the large items in my home that I don't really need, and then start from scratch in Florida. Is is local craigslist site a decent place to post up these large items? I am not even going to bother with ebay because of the weight and shipping. Please if you all have experience with craigslist (good or bad) please chime in.

Also, with such large items its not as if its feasible to just show someone pictures of the items and expect payment, especially if they are local. So of course I would have to let these people into my home if they are serious so they can view the items. This is something that I haven't done before, and am having some doubts about it. Is this generally an acceptable practice when dealing with these kinds of items, and is it something that you would reccommend? Thanks.

Sure, its good but be prepared for lots of barter-type offers and lots of low ballers. Just the nature of cheap people on there.

craigslist is good, but prepare for a lot of flakers and scammers. best way to get serious buyers is to ask for phone numbers only.

Very true. Escalate the process to phone conversations immediately. Lots of flakes when it comes to e-mail.

I've been very happy with CL. Bought my 40" Wega HDTV from there, and have sold a half-dozen computers or so.

Just use common sense when dealing with people and you'll be fine.

Good place to sell stuff and I've never had any problems with people coming to my appartment to look at/buy stuff but you WILL get a truckload of scammer responses. Not like they're hard to spot but still annoying.

Craigslist is better option than eBay since you can sell LOCALLY and request cash/local pickup.

Do yourself and potential buyers a favor by listing complete descriptions including condition, wear & tear, list your name and phone number in the ad. Most importantly take PICTURES of the items you're selling.

not sure about posting phone number on craislist.
do agree with Rossman about pictures and condition.

I personally weed out people through email first.

Make sure to tell the buyer that if he/she does not come to pick up the item at specific time, you will sell it next person. Sometime they do not show up.. so ..

Just give general area (no address on website) where you live, so buyer have some idea as for where you are located. Once buyer agree to the price, than give buyer address or meet them somewhere. Probably smaller items you probably want to meet them somewhere else.

Ask buyer to bring exact amount.

Other than some people not showing up, I had good experience selling on craigslist.

If you have a lot of stuffs, maybe yard sell might not be bad idea to get rid of some stuffs first.
