Co worker bought a 2000 Buick from a neighbor for $1,200, decent car with the venerable 3800 V6, for the hell of it I checked CL to see if he got a good deal and came across this gem,
https://ocala.craigslist.org/cto/d/ocala-1995-buick-roadmaster/7047224578.html listed in "good" condition except the tranny slips, it has no working AC and 2 of the windows don't work LOL. I think we should have a contest for you can find the most crap-tastic CL listing in their area!.

I looked for fun and believe it or not - I couldn't find anything anything that crappy.

I did notice the drastic reduction in the amount of vehicles for sale. It used to be like 1000, now it's around 300. No more "Like new 2012 Q5, only 23,000 miles, must sell!!!!!!" type ads anymore.

Hasn't CL changed how a person lists a car for sale? I thought I read something like that last year.

Not that I know of, here in FL there are plenty of sh**boxes rolling around, there is no state inspection.

plenty around here... though everyone's moved to FB marketplace for selling their cars. CL costs $5 to list now and all of the sellers are basically faceless.

FL def has a high crapbox per square mile ratio; the Tampa area seems especially bad.

Yeah there's no way to know if he got a deal at a price point on a 20 year old vehicle, without inspecting that vehicle and considering the miles and service history.

Every year that goes by it makes more and more of a difference how the owner(s) treated it. You might find a Cherry but at the $1000 price point it's common to find mechanic's specials.

I'd expect that the A/C won't work well, and misc things like an inoperable window could be fairly inexpensive to DIY repair, but stay away from engine or tranny problems (if not just a check engine light from a bad sensor), or structural underbody rust.

Facebook Marketplace is a shit show too. The amounts people ask for their shitboxes is entertaining.

CL still seems to be the home of the scammers too. I've seen some jeeps I've been looking for way below market value as of late.

Oh... and Hi Butch! How's the Malibu?

Still running fine, it helps that I only live 2.4 miles from work so it's only got 112K on it, a slow oil leak, grumpy suspension, typical stuff for a 15yr old GM, engine is still very strong though.

FB Marketplace has killed Craigslist. There is so much less in most all categories now that it's kind of sad.

Sold ours to my best friend... Still ride in it.

After he bought it, a few months later the water pump went bad and one of the solenoids or sensors in the tranny went bad... Go figure. Fixed it and it's been solid for him for the last 10 months or so.

Before I sold it to him...Fun part was I removed the seats and cleaned the whole thing... shampoo and all. Took out center console even. Put it all back together and lubed the intermediate steering shaft. Car was cleaner inside and out than it had been in years. Took it for a drive and part of me was regretting selling it but we already had new car. Busted my balls by breaking one of the trunk torsion springs so I had to get one from pull a part. Sold it to him for $2500. Bought it for $20,000 new 13 1/2 years before so that isn't too shabby.

Sorry to hear about the ball-breaking event, here in FL there is not much rust so that's not usually an issue. As for the tranny, the paddle-shifter wire on mine broke, it's not a great design since the wire is too short. When it broke the tranny seemed "lost", it didn't know what gear to shift into, I was about to think of getting it rebuilt when I saw a post on a Malibu forum and checked mine, simple fix, just solder a bit of extra wire in there, it's located under the center console.

You have to pay to list a car on Craigslist now. Don't know when they implemented that though.
