the only way out of this is if the police wasn't involved and the guy is cool enough to let you pay for damages out of your own pocket..otherwise you're screwed and rightly so. buy fvcking insurance next time you drive (probably 3 years from now)

If I recall correctly. If the accident is your fault. The drivers insurance will pay for his repairs but their insurance company will turn right back around and sue you for every penny they had to pay plus legal fees. If you can, get the driver you hit to let you pay out of your pocket for repairs.

Seriously though...What about if you hit and severely injured some kid on the street - who the hell would pay for the hospitalization and whatever else might be needed? I don't think you should be allowed to drive uninsured.

Believe it or not only recently (few years I think) was it illegal to drive without it in Alabama. Sad, eh?

I got into an accident 6 days ago (23 days after I had bought the car). My insurance is going to pay for my car to be replaced ($12,000 car), plus they'll probably end up paying for the other driver's car ($9,000 car, although the accident really should be a "no-fault," but I was turning left so the cop blamed me). If there's cop involved, you'll get a fine for not having insurance and get some points on your driving record. If your at fault, the other driver's insurance company going to make you pay for everything and then some more.
