geeez, Thanks for making me feel better about my situation.

I know I shouldn't have driven my civic out. I am insured on two other vehicles in my house, but not this one. It was my fault, I was making a left out of a driveway and a van stopped for me in the inner lane, I crept out to see the second lane and boom....I hit the car. I pulled over and her rear quater panel was dented in. It looks like a $500-$1000 repair if she lets me dent it out, but I think she wants a brand new quarter panel. We did not call the cops and I doubt she wants her insurance involved either, but I told her that I wasn't insured so who knows what she did after she left.

And for you guys to post what kind of moron I am, seriously thank you. I just hope one day you get the living crap kicked out of you for a mistake you make. I did not post this topic to be called a moron or dumbass, I'm just really concerned on what to do from here.

now thats a horse of a different color! "moron" is a bit harsh...

You got her number? Did she get yours? Your license plate? Think she remembers what you look like... heh, ok ok. But really. Not to promote illegality, but just paying for her repair bills and going and getting some insurance would be a Good Thing.

Sounds like you might just get lucky, cause you DEFINATELY don't want to get busted with no insurance...

Well, I'm declassifying you from Moron to "made a stupid mistake (we all do)" after learning that you at least had your OTHER two cars insured.

I'm glad it's under $1000 damage. Offer to pay out of pocket. Tell her you'd rather not get insurance involved.

You said that you weren't insured on that car. Is the car insured for someone else? I haven't been insured on 90% of the cars I've driven, but the car's had insurance on it. Not that it matters since you probably won't deal insurance companies. AFAIK, as long as the car is insured to someone, you're fine and dandy.

That will likely be the case if the car is insured by someone else in the house. With no cops involved, I doubt you'll get any fine (or worse, suspended licensed), and even if they hit you with that, showing a valid proof of insurance will get that thrown out easily.
Now if the car has NO insurance whatsoever.....thats more complicated and you'll be looking at losing some $$$ (or worse) for it.
As Trasko just said, you just got lucky big time. Call the lady and try to resolve this without getting any insurance involved. Explain to her that she will be better off not reporting it, because it will affected her insurance rate regardless (it'll simply goes up). On the same token, be a gentleman and make sure you paid everything needed for the repair and don't double cross her.

Is the car registered in your name? if not, then your own insurance should kick in. it should cover diving other people's cars.

if it is in your name, i think u are screwed.

but wait, do you own a house? then you;re homeowners policy should cover it. just call them up and ask annonymously about it.

rufruf is right. If the lady hadnt reported to her insurance, then you're saved. Just be very nice and helpful and pay her entire repair in full, with your credit card if needed. If she reported, however, you can be fined for driving w/o insurance and your license be suspended and/or your car impounded. I dont think you'll get any jail time, though, so that is good news. Good luck to you.

thanks for explaining to us in your first post that you wanted us to make you feel better. getting called a moron is your fault too. no story behind the situation, your a moron, since you have other cars insured but you decided to drive your uninsured car to please the ladies you paid the price. you have been unclassified as a moron, and relabled. as somthing slightly more then a moron. should be a lesson tho, if you drive it, insure it.

what's the big deal about this insurance thing, why is everybody so touchy about it? i'm insured, but i dunno, you people have issues.

i think a bunch of you people are just angry because you don't want to get hit by an uninsured driver. which i can understand, but frankly i think you're wrong to direct all that anger at this one guy.

You have exactly ZERO points of sympathy from me.
It's 100% your fault you're driving without insurance.
You can get basic coverage for a dollar a day from several places, there's no excuse not to have it.

i'm afraid you're not going to get my sympathy either ppaik

What? I'm sure we all got the crap kicked out of us for mistakes we made. Geez.
What you did wasn't very serious, but it could've been much worse and it was irresponsible.

Because uninsured drivers are the ones that cause our damned insurance rates to go up. I pay $3500/yr on 2 cars for insurance and I have a clean record. In NJ, where I live, I hear that up to 60% of drivers are uninsured or underinsured which causes responsible people like myself to pay up the ass in insurance to cover for those jerkoffs.

Driving without insurance is totally irresponsible regardless of the situation you are in.

I'm not sure what will happen, but I do hope it works out. You could always offer sex to the lady. She might forget about the whole thing and you can pretend that nothing happened.

You have to understand that most people on this forum don't live in reality. They think people make mistakes and say oh fvck, when in reality you wish to correct the situation. Your best bet would be talk to her and try to work out an agreement. You exchaged information right? Call her and tell her you are willing to have her automobile fixed as soon as she wishes.

You are right that you shouldn't have been driving without insurance. Doing so not only opens you up for liability, but it is the reason insurance rates are more to add coverage for uninsured drivers. I suggest you make arrangements next time to prevent something like this happening. Your situation could have been a lot more tragic.

As for the people who have never made a mistake I am proud of you. Everyone can sit back on this messageboard and life coach, but some of us live in reality. Sure he should have had insurance. I don't think anyone is arguing against that. He also knows it wasn't smart to be driving without insurance. What is with this kick me when I am down syndrome as of late on ATOT?

Just wondering...

was the car insured at all? If someone has insurance on the car, then you are insured, unless they specifically exclude you from driving it, in Michigan, at least. Insurance follows the car, not the driver here.

What do you mean "as of late"? The ATOT crowd has been high on this for as long as I can remember. Unfortunately, it seems to be a trademark of the forum

BTW, I agree with your post.

Well because if everybody had insurance people like me wouldn't have to pay extra a month for "uninsured motorist" protection which makes me pay for something other people should be doing. Then there is the fact that if your brand new $25k car was just declared a write-off and the clown driving the other car doesn't have insurance you aren't going to get a penny from him. He should not be on the road. it's an especially big deal if you've been given more than a fender bender but a major accident which you'd otherwise be able to get $400k for for medical injuries and this ass doesn't have even the most basic of insurance. And the sort of guy that doesn't have insurance is not good for $400k. It's grossly irresponsible. The road is dangerous and lacking insurance is a great disrespect to other drivers who share that dangerous road with you.

At least ppaik normally has it. I suppose sh*t sometimes happens; I know I've ridden my brother's motorbike once without insurance (I wanted to ride the thing!!) but it's not something I did more than once and it doesn't sound like ppaik does this often, but to people who habitually drive without insurance damn you to hell!
