I think that i have really done it this time.
OK, so i was feeling adventerous and decieded to OC my venice.
First off i wanted to find my highest HTT my pc would boot with.

So im keep on bumping up the HTT, everything seeems to nbe going fine. Until the last adjustment.
I set the HTT at 260 but i also left the LDT (or LTD whatever its called) multi at x5. (yes i know that was stupid)
This time when i rebooted the PC would get suck at the POST srceen. I had to hit the reboot around 20 times before i was able to get back into the bios and change the setting back to default.
Now when booting the PC displays the message "insert or select boot device" or something to that effect.
Im thinking that i either messed up my HD, or the IDE controller.

SO i took the HD and slaved it onto my other PC, so that i could checkit out. Then i used Disk Manager under WINxp and it diplayed the HD as and Unpartitioned/Unformatted Drive.
So i guess that i fried my HD. How is this possible? Since my A8V was using the PCI/AGP locks. Has is something to do with pushing the HT for far?

Well, i guess im going to have to buy a new HD today.

Has anyone else done killed a HD this way before?

I dont think you can fry a HDD from increasing the HT/PCI bus. You can cause instability because the bus is running out of spec, but i have never heard of a HDD dying from a fluctuating bus speed.

You can corrupt the data on the HD but I don't think you can fry it that way. All data on that HD may be toast and the HD may require a reformat.

I think you just corrupted the hd data. Ive done that by getting carried away overclocking too. Just repartition/reformat it.

Agreed - may be a case of an unfortunate coincidence as well. (If the drive is in fact dead) When increasing the frequency on the PATA bus you can create unstable conditions, but the voltage is never increased to the HDD. I cant think of anyway this could result in permanent HD failure. It defintily could lead to corrupt data or even a corrupt boot sector however.

Thanks for the replies!

O, and you guys where all correct!

After i sucessfully repartition and formated the drive i did not have any problems restoring the ghosted image for my main partition.

Everything is up an running! so far so good.
So im guessing that i currupted the partition table or something to that effect. The lesson learned here is DONT try to run the HT at 1300mhz. lol, oops.

I really thought that i sh*ted things up........phew..... that is a such a relief.

thanks!

from your sig I see you have an Asus A8V 2.0
Was that the board you used to OC

Because I have asus a8v rev1.02 And you CANNOT OC using the VIA Serial Ports(1&2)
The samething happen to me When OC using the VIA ports with my Raptor
If your using a SATA HDD use the PROMISE serial ports(3&4_RED ones)
