I know Matt Walsh doesn't know what a woman is.
I was contemplating this concept and why it is so difficult for people to pin down these definitions. The conservative definition looks to keep it simple, at the exclusion of people who are clearly women and liberals want to include everyone. BTW, the ideas will apply to men as well.
Take a look at the conservative idea of what the definition of woman should be - someone with a uterus. There are so many problems with that definition. For example, what happens when someone has a hysterectomy? By this definition, they are no longer women. There are also 1 in 4500 women with Mullerian or uterine agenesis who would also fail this definition. The other problem is you do not know if a person has a uterus or not by just looking at them. Unless you have a pocket ultrasound with the appropriate probe and proper training, you will never know.
Men and Women is a perception. It is accumulated evidence that allows us to perceive someone as a man or woman. It is based on appearance, mannerisms, secondary vs primary characteristics, culture, attitude, behavior, etc.
While I was not "born a woman," I am perceived as one. Just yesterday, I was walking through Lowes. As I left, the cashier stated, "thanks for coming, ma'am. From their perception, I am a woman.
Looking at the definitions of male and female in their simplest forms are also problematic. When a child is born, we look at the appearance of primary sex characteristics and assign male or female based on the apparent presence of a penis or labia. That's it. At times, this is ambiguous making the decision more difficult. This assigment at birth is not based on genetics, chromosomes, hormone levels or expected puberty. It simply is the appearance of external organs. Doctors don't even know if there is a vagina present or not.
So, here are my definitions:
A woman is a person where percieved evidence accumulated through interaction with that person that allows an individual to assume they are female
A man is a person where percieved evidence accumulated through interaction with that person that allows an individual to assume they are male
Female - a person or animal who typically produces eggs - there are exceptions
Male - a person or animal who typically produces sperm - there are exceptions
I intentionally leave the "exceptions" part vague. Again, the easiest example is a female who has had a TAH-BSO or a male who has had a bilateral orchiectomy.
I can also put this in another thread to discuss as I know this is about CRT, but I wanted to answer PCGeek, even though I know his intent was satirical.
