I've experienced worse with Expedia I was flying down to DC for Christmas to visit my girlfriend at the time. This would have been about 2009 when the snowpocalypse hit. I spent the whole day on the phone non stop going back and forth between Expedia and Delta. At least an hour's wait time each.

Oddly enough, Delta was the more reasonable/helpful of the two. Which just shows you how bad Expedia's customer service is. I was working in the travel industry at the time too, and how they treat their customers genuinely shocked me. I would have got fired on the spot for that.

At least you get to wait on hold.

IRS: "Experiencing high call volume, please call back at another time. *click*"

Oh, don't get me started on Comcrime. I got a new modem and the damn thing never came with a battery like I'm used to. So I go and order one, come to find out they will charge me, (the one who leases the damn modem) $40 some odd dollars. I'm like you have to be kidding me! So I said fuck it and ordered the damn battery anyway. Waited a week, then another week and no battery. Called them and in 20 minutes I was on the phone they said there was a shipping problem or some crap. Said the battery should arrive by Friday. I said fine and hung up. Friday came and no battery. Called them back and told me they still didn't have their shit together. But insured me that I would be top priority. So after 18 bloody days I finally get the damn battery.

I went and Googled about this battery BS and in the process found this nice blog. A good read for Comcrime subscribers. http://comcastsucksballs.blogspot.com/

even the dmv has a call back service you leave your name number and keep your place in the queue and they call you back.

US Airways did that back during a snowstorm that left me stuck in San Francisco and then Phoenix as I tried to get to the east side of the country. After at least a dozen attempts that got met with an automatic disconnect, I finally got to spend more than 3 hours in a hold queue before giving up and trying the next day.
A snowstorm swept from O'Hare to Philadelphia. They ended up rescheduling my flights a few times, but they kept giving me flights that connected in places where the storm was going to be as it moved east.

Two other things I don't like:

"Our menu options have changed, so please listen carefully."
Right. Either you change your menu options constantly, or you're full of it.

"We're currently experiencing unusually high call volume."
Really? Every time I need to call any company? What a coincidence.

Best one though: Fujitsu. I made the mistake of purchasing something from TigerDirect, which ended up being defective. They said that in order to return it for a refund, I needed to contact Fujitsu (manufacturer of the thing) to get a case number before I could return it.
....ok, seems like a BS stalling tactic from a crap vendor, but I'll humor you.
I called Fujitsu, pressed the option for Tech support, and after the "We're transferring you to tech support" recording and a single ring, someone picked up.
It was someone competent and quite proficient at English. Amazing.

I'd love to buy more Fujitsu things now just for that reason, though that first thing I got was defective. Probably a loose ribbon cable, but it was still well within the warranty period.

As a company grows, I guess each individual customer becomes increasingly worthless. If you're not a corporate user at that point who's going to generate at least $500k in annual revenue for them, you're just more trouble than you're worth.

Don't like it, get another internet provider. We live in a Capitalist society... right?

Last time I called Comcast (last week) they had that option available, but I didn't use it since they said the hold time was 2 minutes.

Insane.

Only in the U.S. would people accept this.

Get yer ass some FIOS.

In 3 years we have NEVER lost service. Not even for a minute. Not in the worst thunderstorm or blizzard.

And after a free upgrade we get steady 65/45.

Comcast & Time warner are only really shitty/crappy where there is no competition. When Fios rolled out in my city, TWC actually improved vastly, heck, they even let me negotiate my cable plan down to $170,{4 dvrs, every English movie channel, etc etc}

Comcast "won" the Worst Company in America voting by Consumerist last year and joined EA as a two-time "winner". Because of reasons. Real, valid reasons.
