That roll doesn't necessarily indicate a loss of power in that engine.

Airplane was already coming down. Might just be going through the last stage of a stall.
Need to see much clearer pics. Was the prop feathered? Was it pilot input to avoid stuff on the ground? Ailerons don't appear to be at any significant angle, but again, need better pics.

It reminds me a bit of American Airlines Flight 191
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Airlines_Flight_191

Hydraulic lines were damaged when the engine tore off, causing the flaps and slats to retract on one side. One wing stalled and the plane rolled knife edge.
For those who don't know, flaps are used to boost lift at low speeds, namely on takeoff and landing. They direct airflow downwards and slow air moving over the top of the wing.

I'm guessing something similar may have happened here. Though hydraulic systems today are supposed to have plugs preventing loss of pressure in the event of an emergency. I suppose icing is a possibility but I can't imagine it getting cold enough in Taiwan at low altitude.

Most stalls like this are recoverable. You dip the nose and to increase your airspeed. That's assuming the pilots were aware that was the issue. Planes are supposed to have a stick shaker that alerts the flight screw of a stall. There may be some training, medical, or procedural issues that hampered awareness.

You can see in the images prior to the crash that the port side prop is feathered, indicating the engine is not running. Though an engine loss on a twin engine plane is recoverable. I'm not familiar with the ATR-72, but multi-engine planes are supposed to have redundant power systems in case of a single engine loss.

I'm sure investigators will be looking at all of that.

Wow holy shit.

I saw a screen cap of the video on FB and thought it was fake. Stupid click bait articles ruin it when there is an actual story!

Heart goes out to those involved.

Twin engine planes can easily fly on one engine right? I'm guessing mmntech is right. The engine did not just flame out but had a failure that damaged some flight controls.

"Two dead on the ground" means that people in the taxi were killed.

** Edit **

That last video clearly shows the taxi driver getting out and checking a load he was carrying (hell of an attentive guy). He may not have had any passengers.

Who was killed on the ground??

Yeah, but the load he was carrying was in his pants!

Actually, it's not a load in the back of his taxi (I though it was a large equipment box) but what appears to be a lift gate for a wheelchair. Maybe he did have a passenger or two.

The two people in the taxi were injured but are in stable condition after being taken to hospital, CNA said.

Hell - I'm surprised anyone survived even with the river

Good god. Good thing there is video. Otherwise could you imagine trying to explain that to the insurance company?

"What part of 'A passenger plan hit my car while I was on the highway' do you not understand?!"
The front of your Van is smashed? You rear-ended a plane!
Why were you driving on an airports' runway?
No, I was on the road!

We have decided to not fly on any airlines with "asia" in their names. Asiana, Malaysia, Indonesia, Transasia...

The pilot called mayday three times but should have worked the elevators instead of the radio maybe.

Even his family did not believe him

The taxi suffered substantial damage to its front end. The taxi driver, surnamed Chou (&#21608, and a female passenger sustained only minor injuries.
Chou said his family did not believe him at first when he telephoned home to say: “I’m OK now. My car got into a crash, it was hit by an airplane.”

Looked like the plane clipped the building just before it rolled.

Because the flaps make the air going over the top of the wing travel an even longer distance the air going over the top of the wing has to speed up more which reduces its pressure even more compared to the air going under the wing causing the wing to get sucked up more.

I saw that one earlier.

one of those videos that really makes your eyes pop out a bit, or at least mine did.
