I Bought Gigabyte 970 g1 card, tonight I find it crashes BF3 & BF4 within a few seconds.
What should I try to fix the issue?

-go back to my 760 card which worked flawlessly?
-Keep playing around with fixes off the internets?
-return it and buy a 770?
-return it and buy an AMD 290 card?
-trade for the new GTX 960 card?

with the 970 cards horsepower, I was planing on getting a QHD monitor. Kind of silly to keep running my 1680x1050 one.

Try resetting the game to NVidia's settings in Geforce Experience. Use optimal setting to do so. The games might have wacky settings from the 760.

If I were you, I'd return it and get a 290, and use the difference towards the monitor.

Then again, problem most likely isn't the card, remove drivers using cleaner and Install drivers again. Make sure your application is not in power savings mode, as that can cause issues.

Note: I would use the difference to get a real nice screen. Also, I'd wait till newer monitors with hdcp 2.something hit the shelves

I would return that card in a heartbeat.

On Newegg
XFX R9 290 = $240
PowerColor R9 290 = $250

Add Asus Slim Bezel 23.5" 1080P IPS monitor for $135 (+ USD $15 off w/ promo code EMCANAP68, ends Feb 9)

That's barely more $ than the Gigabyte G1 970 with 95% of the performance and a brand new 1080P IPS monitor!

Don't forget you can stack $25 off $200 AMEX coupon if you link your AMEX card via Twitter.

Make sure your motherboard BIOS is up-to-date as well.

Does it work with any other games? Might need to reinstall the game, as much of a PITA as that sounds... Or try checking the files with Origin.

I'd say definitely trade in for a 290, since it may very well clear the problem up and get a lot of money together for a (very worthwhile in my experience) monitor upgrade.

Gully,

Can you describe the crash you're having? Does it drop out of the session, cause a driver crash with a message, lock at the loading screen, bluescreen, or something else?

While a lot of folks here are quick to tell you to return it for a 290 due to the VRAM debacle, I think it's worthwhile actually figuring out what the problem is first. The G1 is a fantastic card, and it will easily outperform a 290 in BF4, which I know is your main game.

For whatever it is worth, it is not a bad advice to give up on 3.5gb equipped card. Are you sure that the drivers will not be a problem like they're with 7xx series?

I and others did mention that it is a good card, but 290 allows more flexibility and cash towards monitor. Regardless, there are titles which will benefit with Mantle. I thought Battlefield was one such title. Then there's another Battlefield title coming in a month or so. Plus what about the monitor? Is it such a bad thing that he could easily get 90% performance for the most part, if not more, and save enough for a 1080p monitor?

It goes to a black screen within a few seconds. I can still hear game sounds going on whie it starts to reboot the machine. I run nvidia sheild thing which keeps my driver up to date. luckily, I bought from Amazon, so I can keep it a few days to try. And they'll still take it back.

Go force experience has no settings for battlefild 3 or 4. only bad company 2. I ran Titan fall with no errors.

If repeated attempts of installing one of the latest drivers, and can't run any 3d applications. (try unigene, Valley/ Heaven). You probably got a bad card. And might try another one of same model or go another route.

Since Titanfall worked without errors, this sounds like something specific to Battlefield. You mention that the system reboots - are you saying the PC actually shuts off and restarts every time you run any BF3 or BF4?

This could be an Origin issue - I had to struggle to get the game to run after a certain update, I can't remember if it was a hardware or software update. Required running as administrator. But I don't recall the system rebooting, which an Origin problem probably wouldn't do. That sounds more like a severe driver issue or a hardware failure.

If you can, test a few more games or demos to see if they run correctly. If they do, but BF4 continues to crash, uninstall the drivers, run a driver cleaner to remove all traces of Nvidia software, and then reinstall the latest driver.

If you still get system reboots (not just crash to the desktop) even after a full driver reinstall, I'd say you have a hardware issue. Returning the card at that point would make sense.

By the way, make sure your motherboard BIOS is up to date. Your system is a couple years old, so maybe there's something particular to the latest PCIe cards that requires updating.

I know i have had a few cards factory overclocked ,i would always crash in BC2 and BF3.Reverting the overclocks always solved the crashes for me.Overclocks could be stable in any other games but those 2 i would always crash.

Termie is right in determining the ability to run in other 3D games/demos to zero in on bad card/hardware or just driver/OS issues.
There is a demo for grid2 on Steam, another game to try. Before reading Titanfall is working, I was thinking a faulty card. That game not causing similar issues, confuses things
There was actually one game that threw errors on me, and it was because of M/B Realtek sound driver version issues. That happened only once, but I was proud of troubleshooting it fairly quickly at the time. Good lucks.

Do a re-scan for games or tell it where to look if you have changed default location. It does support BF3 & 4. I just checked nVidia's GE games supported.

Edit: Make sure its updated too

I tried uninstalling all of the Nvidia drivers, it was a major pain in the neck. Several would refuse to uninstall. and when I rebooted, most came back. I thought about trying to installing in my back-up PC, but it was too damn long.
I had to remove a drive cage in my main PC, but the drive cage in my spare PC was not removable. So, I just packaged it up to return.
I tried running a few more games, it would crash quickly on demanding games, worked fine on less-intensive ones, Grid cashed right after the intro, played GTA 3, and Far Cry 3 - blood drgon and bejeweled just fine. I have some video of it crashing in battlefield 3 an 4, I will figure out how to post to YouTube.
I have my eye on an EVGA 970 card for the replacement. The newest version (04G-P4-3978-KR) has several spec upgrades over their older models. It's also not quite as long. Thanks everyone for their help.
I did update my BIOS, and got the latest Nvidia drivers, no noticeable changes.

Even being a Radeon fan since the ATI times, I find the whole 970 RAM debacle quite hilarious. The card does, after all, perform exactly the same as it always has, and using 4GB of VRAM below UHD resolutions is extremely unlikely - at which point the card isn't powerful to sustain decent frame rates any way. The point is moot, and it's still an amazingly good card.

However, I have to ask: WHY did you buy a card that powerful (expensive) for gaming on a 1680x1050 monitor? A GTX 960 would still let you play whatever you want at 60FPS at ultra settings at that resolution, if not an even cheaper card. On the other hand, the purchase might be worthwhile if you're planning to buy a QHD monitor in the next few months.

Might be the first time I've seen someone return a card because they could not get a driver to uninstall. But whatever you're happy with and what works for you

I was just very impressed at Titan performance for $300. Yes, planning for QHD monitor next.
