Worse, much worse than folks who can't properly pronounce cray-on are those who say AXE instead of ASK.
You have to be pretty ignorant to use "axe." A true measure of one's linguistic acumen.

Then there are people who are so far into the weeds, they consider "holler" a legitimate term. Not even recognizing it as a bastardization of "hollow." This is what happens when no one around corrects your stupidity - you start believing mispronunciations are real words.

How the hell do you pronounce "colonel"? Co-lo-nel?

nope, i pronounce it "kernel" too

i was just implying that in english, pronunciations are not necessarily phonetic and there are many irregular words. different english-speaking cultures and subcultures can and do end up with different pronunciations, and "ask" vs "aks" is one of these.

"ask" vs "aks" is not much different than the british pronouncing "idea" as "idear" or pronouncing "premier" as "premieh".

Dunno. Say crayon really fast so it comes out as one syllable. Sounds like crown. That’s what I say because I am super hyper.
If I force it, I can get something like crā n, but I'm generally particular about annunciation.

Fair enough. That’s pretty close to my pronunciation. I don’t particularly care about enunciation since I’m alternating between two languages on a daily basis as is.

Actually, no one can say which pronunciation predates the other. Use of "axe" has never completely died out.
