Crazy fires going on in Cali

Theres about a dozen fires going on right now in California. The fire that just started here in the OC is about 8 min away from me. Probably the biggest fire I have seen since the 22 years I have lived here. I managed to grab a couple photos before the smoke got out of hand.

On 20/20 tonight they said these "Super Fires" in the western US have grown so widespread every year that they have lost the ability to stop them, and they are burning so hot that the forests they are destroying won't grow back for several centuries. They made it seem like in the next 20 years the entire western half of the US will be transformed into some eerie Mad Max scenario.

Glad I live on the east coast.

The reason why Super Fires exist are because we've been suppressing fires for a LONG time. Ironic huh? Basically, fires are supposed to happen, but with our 'OMG ENVIROMENT LOL" attitude, we basically stopped a lot of natural fires from happening. Thus, too much overgrowth, and BOOM, we get super fires that we can't stop and sterilizes the area.

we elected arnold as the governor. i suppose having tina turner rule the land isnt that far-fetched of an idea.

Ya, I'm in Chino Hills and I can't see much into the valley, it must be all the dirt in the air. I rent so as long as I survive I don't really care if this place burns down

It has nothing to do with "OMG ENVIRONMENT LOL". For a LONG time we have known that fires are supposed to happen and part of the natural ecology of much of the west. The problem was people who wanted to exploit the resources (like Gifford Pinchot), not preservationists. You can't sell a burnt log. Learn your history

Yea.....the one in Irvine/Orange is pretty crazy. I am probably about 5 miles away from it and air quality is very asphyxiating. Thinking of calling in sick to work tomorrow so I dont have to go outside.

I heard on last night's news that many fire crews from northern Kahleeforneeya are heading down to help with the current rash of wildfires.

I always believed that arson (even fires in grasslands and forests) should carry an automatic death penalty.

I was driving to the Irvine Spectrum at around 7pm last night and I could see it from the 405S. Afterwards, we went to YogurtLand and they said they were going to close soon b/c the area was going to be evacuated. We sat there for a good hour and many people came in, it didn't look like the store was closing.

As I was driving into South OC this morning, it was covered with a big dust/smoke cloud.

North County San Diego here. Fires are raging in San Marcos and Escondido/Ramona areas. There is a lot of smoke in the air and my son's school is closed today.

I'm not riding my bike to work this week.

Hope San Diego area is alright. There's evacuation going on in Ramona and RB? What about north county communities, especially those bordering the area, like Carmel Valley, Del Mar, Solana Beach?

With a little planning you can easily avoid all 3. People usually sign waivers when they live in danger areas that state they know they are at risk for certain natural disasters.

CA homes are built better than the other states usually so most of the time earthquakes don't do anything except knock some things off the shelves.
