With a little planning you can easily avoid all 3. People usually sign waivers when they live in danger areas that state they know they are at risk for certain natural disasters.

CA homes are built better than the other states usually
I wish someone told my house's contractor that.

I don't know about that far west, but my parents in Rancho Penaquitos (bordering I-15 on the west side) have been evacuated.

The fire is worsening... poor Malibu. My coworker had a wedding there this weekend. But I didn't go due to over-time working. But dangg, i'm glad i didn't go lol...

Hope everyone's fine in the affected area. If I live by the area, I probably will evacuate before they ask me too. Safety first!!

..nothing like building neighborhoods in the middle of a bunch of seasonal brush. Great oppertunity for the serria club and other theists to get out there and fire up their guilt based agendas.

I just got a call from my Dad (lives in carmel valley w/my sister) and yes they're being ordered to evacuate. This is on Del Mar Heights Rd close to Torrey Pines High School, believe it or not.

Hey Mods, can we sticky a thread on the fires going on in southern cali? Seems like a good idea since these seem to be affecting many people.

MY wife's relatives called this morning (Del Mar), they're packing up and going to stay with her grandmother in Torrance. They're fairly close to the HS too. He said they expected things to be fine, but there was a possibility of the fire heading towards the ocean.

Certain areas of Solana beach have been ordered to evacuate, as well as everything east of the 5 (100 sq miles with over 200,000 people).

I have a friend in one of the area's being evacuated, but she's in NY right now. If you think it's hard figuring out what to pack, it's even harder to give directions to someone else on what to pack.

This reverse-911 (the authorities call your house to tell you to evacuate) system doesn't work for us since we only have cell phones. We're just sitting here today wondering if we'll have to evacuate. Looks like I'll repeatedly check the fire blog. We're about 5 miles from the nearest fire.

I work in Irvine, about 5 miles away from one of the 11 fires out there. They told us to go home because the air is just really bad. I can smell the smoke inside my office.
There's another fire about 1 1/2 hours from Irvine, in Santa Clarita. My brother has a home about 3 miles from the fire. They're just waiting for the evacuation notice then they'll leave.

I couldn't even pay attention in class today, knowing that my family friends and the neighbourhood are borderline dangerous.

I really hope it gets contained soon.

Yeah, we're sitting tight- conflicting sources say we are either in the mandatory evac zone, or just outside- we can't tell. All packed up and sitting around by the TV waiting for the evac phone call... Sky looks like the fires of hell atm.

I live nowhere near this so it doesn't really affect me. But... Reading the various news stories on this the thing that is pissing me off is all the reports of fire crews/resources being used to rescue people who were too fucking stupid to leave when they were told to. This of course means no crews to actually contain the fire(s).

At some point people have to accept some responsibility for their actions, is it so wrong for stupidity to be fatal once in a while?

Viper GTS <- Probably going to burn for this

I live in the Irvine Spectrum area and it got pretty bad (smoky) that I went to my parents place in Aliso Viejo. Work, in Lake Forest/Foothill Ranch, also told everyone to go home.

I agree as well. There is only so much we can do to help people protect themselves. If they want to stay and face the fire even after a mandatory evacuation, then let them. No need to waste our resources on those stupid people when there are a ton of other smarter people who are listening to the authorities and are doing what is needed to stay safe.

Looks like San Diego is getting hit really hard. Over 100,000 acres burned between the 6 fires that are going on there. 250,000 people have already been evacuated. My sister that lives down there said she wants to leave, but the streets and the 5 are jammed pack.

They have now expanded the evacuation zone all the way up to carlsbad. They're saying just the east side of the 5 meaning half of Del Mar and half of Solana Beach should be evacuated. Might as well evacuate the whole communities to be safe. Carmel Valley is right on the corner of the evacuation area. The border is the 56 which runs through the middle of CV.

Poway and Scripps Ranch are now being threatened as well. Also a new fire was discovered in San Ysidro. This is crazy. Every 5 minutes they put a new list of communities that are being evacuated on the screen.

I'm in the middle of the county quite a distance from any of these fires and the air still sucks.
