I picked up L4D for the sale price, haven't fired it up yet, but looking forward to it. Steam name is Kefka1983.

L4D starting to look reasonable.

$37.50 is still too much for it imo. I preloaded it and got it for $45 and I don't think it's worth $37.50. I hardly play it at all.

man, its such a fun game...you guys are crazy.

Truth.

I hear these complaints from people who don't do well in a cooperative environment. Some people want their shooters to be rambo...

And yeah, if you're not working your friends list for this game, you're doing it wrong. Get good teammates, get a mic, and you'll have a blast.

Well I don't consistenly have everyone on my friends list playing L4D and when you don't it sucks. There's just not enough content to warrant the price. It got boring very quickly. I'll pop it in once a day and play a round of versus and that's it. They need some more content. 2 maps to play on with the same weapons over and over gets boring.

Orange Box spoiled me. After paying $50 for all the content Orange Box delivered, L4D seems a little steep.

I'm a Valve nut so I'm keeping up to date with the various user mods for L4D. Everyone is excited about the Dead Before Dawn maps. They look awesome. Can't wait for those to come out.

No sane person is going to deny the value of Orange Box, but to be fair, every new $50 game (covering the same or similar genre) is going to seem overpriced in comparison to what Valve pulled back then, so I hope you're not limiting this feeling just to Left 4 Dead.

The Orange Box definitely spoiled me. It was unreal how much of a good deal that was at release. Having said that, I did pick up the PoP Pack, UT3, Fallout 3, and STALKER: CS from this deal.

I've been debating whether or not I should pick up the Unreal Deal Pack.

Its 20 bucks for Unreal Gold, Unreal 2, UT 2004, UT Gold, and UT3. I have the original Unreal, and the original UT. I had UT 2003, but my disks are shot.

I was only moderately interested in Bioshock, but since it still has the securom with limited activations, thats black listed. Even at 5 dollars, I still cannot bring myself to rent a game under false pretenses.

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on the Strategy First pack too. Some of them look like indy games that I've never heard of (but they might turn out to be good nonetheless). A good number of them seem to be decent/semi-decent older games that I never got around to getting. Especially these:

Darkstar One
Disciples II
Sacred Gold
FlatOut 1, 2, Ultimate Carnage (I already own FlatOut 2, and it's a fun arcade demolition racer)
Jagged Alliance 2 Gold

There's still a blurb on the Steam Bioshock page about it requiring online activation, so there's still some form of securom in it. Games that use the normal Steam authentication don't have such a notice.

Wish Impulse would have sales like this, Steam is probably selling games right and left from this.

Yes, though there is a delay from when the developer releases the patch and when it gets pushed out on Steam, which varies from a few days to a few weeks. I do not believe Steam pushes out community based patches though, Bloodlines, for example, still requires you to install the community patches manually . . . and perform some other tweaks if you're using Vista 64 with 4GB+ of RAM.

Bought Bioshock and Savage2, have to support the indie developers, they are the only ones who innovate these days

$5 for Bioshock is much better than the $50 I paid for FC2 when it came out (and hated).

I picked it up, hard to go wrong for $5. (unless it's a cyberwings deal, lol)

I've been playing it. It's fun and things are different but it's fun. I hate the logging in crap. Sometimes it logs in and sometimes it doesn't. It does look really good too. I bought the Unreal Deal Pack even though I already have 2k4. For $20 it's a steal.

That's still the Steam DRM. They have more than one option for publishers when it comes to DRM, like they can require that it is authenticated online at certain intervals.

EDIT: To clarify, I have BioShock, Fallout 3, and a myriad of other Steam games. Steam has not installed SecuROM and the only registry entry I have that contains the word SecuROM is a flag for BioShock that contains the product key. I do not have the SecuROM registry entries for the software itself. As far as I can tell, they are still using the Steam DRM which can be fined tuned to the publisher. Sometimes the publisher can require only a single activation (like they have with Half-Life 2) or they can require periodic activations (like with BioShock and Fallout 3). I do not always have internet connection but I have never been inconvenienced by this. The product activations for Fallout 3 and Bioshock look like the same to me.

L4D isn't that great of a deal. I just ordered it off Amazon for $2 (and change) more.

$2......right

And if you ordered off of Steam, you could be playing it by now. That's what I love, I ordered Beyond Good and Evil, Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Ultimate Doom, and Doom 2. Started the installs and after I came back from dinner it was all ready for me to go.

Has anyone noticed that Ultimate Doom can run in widescreen? I thought it was stretching at first but the aspect ratio of circles and text looks correct and Doom 2 is run in the correct 4:3 aspect ratio.

I ordered COH: Opposing Fronts and Portal. I have some of the more popular games already.

Any opinions on Silent Hunter 3? Would it be fun for someone who doesn't mind realism, but isn't really into super hardcore simulation games? And why does it say XP only in the sys. req. section? (I have Vista)

What about Sid Meier's Pirates? What is the time frame of this game? I can't do any rpg length games these days.

$2......right

He wrote "2$ *more*" than the Steam version

I bought the iD Pack myself, never played RTCW and a few years back it was cool to download games off the Internet. I recon buying some of the stuff I pirated would at least ease my conscience a bit

Ohh and bought the X3 pack, wanted to give this game a spin.

And "Beyond good and evil"...

And...

Bloody sales

It's like the other Sid Meier games (Civ, Railroads!). You can probably finish a game in a few hours if you set up a very easy campaign. Or you can go all out and end up with a game that takes much longer to complete.
