Has anyone used Creatine? What are the side affects if any and are the benefits better than the side affects? Does it help loose weight while gaining mussle?

It's meant for people who require a lot of power in short burts, multiple times (i.e. football players, sprinters, etc). It's not really used to gain weight, however you may look a little bigger due to the fact that it makes you retain more water weight. I wouldn't really use it as something to help you lose weight either. I don't think it's been around long enough to determine any long term negative effects...

Do some research on other forums. If you choose to use creatine I would recommend Creatine Ethyl Ester. It has worked better than reg. creatine for me and it works alot of time for non responders to reg creatine.

Don't use it. Odds are you don't need it. It won't help you lose your fat, and it won't put any muscle on you. It's not magic.

IMHO you shouldn't use anything you don't understand. That said, Creatine is an excellent supplement with pretty much no negative side effects (just drink more water). Creatine isn't a magic pill that packs muscle onto your frame, but it does allow you to replenish ATP levels easier between lifts allowing you to tax your muscles more than usual, which in turn promotes additional growth.

I'm going to have to recommend that you go out and learn about building a proper diet and workout routine, and just do that for a few months before dabbling in supplements. Even with all the supplements in the world your progress will suck without those two things in proper order.

Doma- I buy optimum nutrition protein, I've been taking it for about a year now. I weighed about 135 lbs this time last year, now I weigh 162+ All of it is muscle. I reccomend whey protein beyond belief. However im starting to realize that the theory of 1g of protein per 1 lb of your body weight a day is a little flawed. I think I could get away with 100 grams of protein(food included). Consider how much you are just pissing away too. Im thinking of just moving back to 2 protein shakes a day. lift on buddy!

Pics?! Great progress!

I agree with the Optimum 100% Whey Protein. I have been using it for about 2 years now. Whey protein is a staple for anyone wanting to build muscle.

As for creatine:
Only use creatine when you have hit a plateau and are not making any gains for at least a few months. Until you understand what your muscles feel like when lifting and after a good workout, you won't be able to tell the difference between using it and not.

If you are an experienced lifter, taking creatine will give you faster recovery between sets and workouts. It also makes you retain water, so you will gain 5-8lbs very quickly do to that. Your muscles will feel very tight and bulky after and during a workout, which is pretty cool.

There is some research that shows that regular athletes can have big benefits if they take low amounts of creatine all of the time, as part of their diet. This is opposite of what most research shows (that you should load large amounts of creatine for 2-6 weeks, or whatever the load phase is).

Again, unless you are a regular lifter, you will not notice a difference other than placebo.

Bodybuilding.com has TONS of info on Creatine.

I recommend Optimum Nutrition CGT 10. (Creatine Glutamine Taurine) Lemon Lime flavor. It worked well for me and tastes awesome.

start with one shake a day, I mix mine with Skim Milk, no fat and more protein, and if you like it, I take this brand also and I love it, you can add more shakes, but i wouldn;t go over 2 or so espcially if you not lifting hard core, u can use one shake as a snack. I drink mine with a two-3 min. time frame i don't think it really matters on how fast you drink it, as long as you don;t take 30+ mins

I work out on my Bowflex six days a week(45 min to 1 hour), take 1 drink( 16 0z) of EAS Muscle Armour prior to working out and after I finish, also take 1 drink( 16 oz) of 100 % Whey by EAS or Dymatize( have both) and I also will take a EAS Myoplex lite shake once or twice a day if I feel hungry. I just had one actually...chocolote mocha. I have noticed a change within 2 months of working out and using these products and I am quite happy with my results so far.

The time frame fo drinking your shake doesn't matter if you are sticking with 2 scoops. Some peple say that your body cannot "process" over 40g of protein at a sitting... but look around and you will find another article contradicting that. I go for the "over the top" method... meaning that I eat ~200g of protein a day. That way I know I am getting enough. The extra is at least lean calories that won't be turned into fat.

I've had similar gains, though not quite that much. A year ago I was 6'1" 147 lbs, and now I'm right about 170 lbs. Maybe a tiny bit more fat than I had, but not much.

What is your opinion on the theories that too much protein can lead to kidney stones?

What is it with everyone adding supplements to their diet? Doesn't anyone just tough it out and just eat lean meat for protein anymore?

You want to cook it for me?

Once I move out and get a real kitchen and gas grill I will be adding a LOT more lean meat to my diet.

Protein shake takes under a minute to mix and drink that's why...

Also to the OP (or anyone else who's interested in Creatine) you have two options:

1. Use the SEARCH function. This has been discussed many times.
2. Go to bodybuilding sites.

Unless you gained more then 162+ and then "cut" it is not "all muscle". If you gain muscle you gain fat too...sorry.

Good job though!

I don't believe it. Kidney stones are caused by chronic dehydration. I drink plenty of water, so I don't worry about kidney stones or too much sodium intake.
