Creating a Game

I'm working on programming a computer game. The basic idea: 3d Space Shooter seen from cockpit of spacecraft, or camera tailing right behind it. If anyone wants to help with ideas, the technical programming, or modeling/texturing it would be appreciated. I've posted some other questions about physics equations and the such. Also... Any ideas for game concept/cool stuff would be appreciated too. Here's some things i've been having trouble conceptualizing:
Plasma weapons (it doesn't really make much sense if you think about it)
non-reaction drive engines (in other words: propulsion systems that don't use newton's 3rd law to provide motion)

If anyone wants to help web design, program, model/texture, conceptualize, or generally get involved in the project, I can be contacted by e-mail or AIM or MSN messenger:

e-mail: allegrormc@gmail.com
AIM: allegrormc2 (i might or might not be at my computer even though i'm signed on)
MSN: robotoer (allegrormc@msn.com)

what if they used pulling instead of pushing? Super uber electro magnets that could be adjusted to pull you to a source. Then you could put the cool matrix slow time shimmery air thing into effect. Go shaders!

Actually a 3d space sim that followed Neutons law of motion would be sweet.
Combat like in Babylon5 or even Battlestar Galactica.

non reaction drive engines??? Explain please.

Just a thought: to limit the volume of space where the game takes place, how about the game takes place around a black hole (probably ignore the bending of light, etc though) or some other massive object, with some sort of asteroid belt/field/spherical shape surrounding it, forming an outer boundary.

there used to be a space combat sim back in the day where you only used bursts of thrust to accelerate and then you would slide until you applied reverse thrust.. Even wing commander had this feature in the later builds. (the power slide)

'Reactionless' drives are a common feature of science fiction settings. You know, closed systems where you put energy in and get motion out (without an equal and opposite reaction on another object). They violate Newton's Third Law, and so are unlikely to ever exist in real life (unless at some point we find our understanding of physics to be totally flawed).

That's Spacewar in a nutshell.

There have been a number of space flight sims that used (more or less) 'realistic' physics. Most later ones at least included the 'powerslide' functionality that started (AFAIK) in Wing Commander, which let you drift in one direction while rotating to fire (and/or start accelerating) in another.

Edit: I should say "started in Wing Commander for 3-D space flight sims". Even Spacewar and Asteroids had inertia.

I finally remembered the Name of this game. Mantis: XF-5700 Experimental Fighter, released in 1992. Check it out here.

Based on the review of this game at the site I linked to I might have been one of the few to play it LOL.

Actually, I had that game. Not very good, as I recall.
