I need a high capacity player (anything 4GB or higher) that has a built in microphone. Anyone know of any cheaper than the iHP-120 which goes for about ~290 ?

The dell 15GB player isn't gonna happen due to its security features.

you can get the ihp-120 from newegg for ~290 w/ shipping. I absoluetly hate creatives hard drive players. I had the zen nx, and the hard drive failed after 9 months. This is exactly the same player w/ a diff name.

Yeah, witht he dell, once you upload songs to the player, you aren't allowed to download them. PLus you must use musicmatch software :-/

Try the Rio Karma. It goes for around $250 at amazon and doesn't have the security features of the dell.

All these HD-based players (ipod included) probably have the same HD suppliers.

I was the one that posted the original one last week.. I got mine its a nice player pretty happy with it.. only problem is that battery life is severaly overrated...
only seems to last about 3 hours of play at most...

Something is drastically wrong with your player then...because you should be getting AT LEAST 5-6 hrs.
Either that, or you have the EL display constantly on, shuffle, heavy eq settings, high impedance headphones with the volume maxed out, and you flip through tracks a lot (more disk acesses). Make sure you charging the player properly. Also note that you should always trasnfer via USB with the player plugged in and being charged...transferring w/o external power will run you battery down real fast.

Here is one thing you should try (just to make sure your player is working well):
1) Run the player until it dies
2) Charge it back up for a an extended period of time (a day, charging should stop when the player is done trickle charging)
3) Run the player without the EL backlight, no EQ settings (or any other type of options like time morphing), volume at 20 (if I remember correctly the Zen has a scale of 0 - 40?, if not just put the volume at mid level), through a playlist...and don't touch the player...just let it run. It should run for at least 6+ hours.

If this is not the case, make sure you go and get a replacement fast. I had the Zen Extra and its battery life was more than acceptable.

well i run with shuffle on all the time.. very heavy volume as i use it on a motorcycle with a race muffler on it =P
and yes I keep my EQ set on to custom
so bascially youre saying that the way I use my player im gonan get total shitz for battery life.. wtf is the point then.. they might as well say in big letters.. if you like lots of volume or like to use our features expect to stay plugged in...

Yeah...it kind of sucks (most manufacturers give batterly life estimates, but don't say explicitly under what conditions), but most DAPs will greatly suffer in terms of battery life if you use all such options...still 3 hours sounds kind of low. I'd suggest (if still possible) getting a replacement from wherever you bought it and seeing if you just have a bad unit.

On my Rio Karma, I listen with the EQ on, shuffle, moderately high volume (25/30), backlight set to 5 seconds auto off, and a mix of ogg vorbis files and I still get around 7-9 hours.

Also, isn't it kind of dangerous (not to mention illegal) to drive/ride in public with headphones on?

really.. what is the diffence between me having my headphones on or that fvckign moron in the car next to me with enough boom to make his ears bleed while watching DVDs in his 5 Monitors... and cops letting them just drive by....

hell even my dads stock system in his Lexus at normal operating range you cant hear the outside world at all... whats the diff.. I can still hear everything around me even with phones on and the player cranked...

kinda a double standard if it is indeed illegal..

I agree it is a double standard, if you can't hear...you can't hear (heaphones or not). Anyway, this is a bit OT....but try to be safe when doing it, since, if you ever get in accident in a bike, its you who will be taking the brunt of the force.
