from what I've heard just as I was about to buy a creative sound card is that Creative has issues with windows 7. Even if you try the virtual XP mode, you have really big issues, up to and including the blue screen of death.

Has anyone else encountered and/or conquered this issue??

Any help would be appreciated....

honestly, I dont really know of anyone with creative soundcards anymore. Almost seems like their drivers were completely exposed with the change over to vista (and later 7). Combined with the integrated cards getting better and better, i really dont see too many of them in systems anymore.

i have an x-fi on win7 x64. No problems.

+1

I used to worry about this too. Most problems come from people trying to run older Live and ZS cards - which will not work with 7.

I haven't had a stitch of trouble with my x-fi on 7 x64. Make sure you are installing the newest drivers from creative's site and you should be good to go.

I've had an X-Fi on XP, Vista64, and now 7 64. Never had any problems, though I get occasional crackling every once in a while if I've been going into standby too many times (goes away when I reboot). That seems to be a hardware issue though.

I have an X-fi xtreme gamer... You're probably better off without it. Microsoft dealt creative a death blow by killing EAX in Vista and 7. You can beat yourself up trying to get some older games to use EAX with Alchemy, but it's just not worth it. Newer games don't use EAX, you don't need a Creative card. Onboard or another brand is fine, and probably has better drivers.

My new laptop (Asus G72GX) has Realtek HD audio, but Creative EAX software installed from the factory. I was getting total system freeze ups every few minutes. Uninstalled the Creative software, fixed. I tried reinstalling it, and I got lock ups again. Then I uninstalled the Realtek HD audio, and the sound was ok, but the Creative software said there was no supported devices installed for EAX and virtualization. THEN I installed the Realtek HD drivers again, and now it all plays nice together. But what does the Creative software really do for me? Nothing.

I have a Xtremegamer with no driver problems in Win 7, but compared to my 5-year old Realtek ALC888 onboard:

1. X-Fi has noticeably worse music quality no matter much I tweak the settings
2. There is mic feedback which does not happen with onboard

So my conclusion is that you should try out your onboard. You may be surprised how good they actually are these days.

Ha! I'm using (XP Pro/Win7 Ultimate) with an SB Live 24bit with Kawakami's drivers which update it to an X-Fi Extreme, add EAX and Crystalizer. No problems what so ever.

I have an X-Fi Fatality running on 7 x64 with no problems (ran on Vista x64 too after Creative sorted out their driver issues).

The sound quality is noticeably better than the on-board sound thanks to its 96Khz/24-bit DAC. It also has much lower latency for recording thanks to its ASIO drivers.

If you're running on average computer speakers or headphones and don't do any recording, then stick with the onboard. But anything more and the X-Fi is worth it.

When Win7 beta came out, my x-fi wouldn't work with it, so I used my onboard Realtek HD. After installing rtm version, I found Creative had new drivers. Installed them and now use the x-fi which I think sounds better.

Don't believe everything you hear. I used an Audigy SE in W7x64 without any problems. Until they decided to remove the What-U-Hear recording option from the drivers, but that's a different story.

This topic was the reason I am in this section of forums. Trying to find solution for Win 7 and Creative issues. All other forums, including Creatives, pretty much show we are are SOL for now with some of their newer products and Win7.

No luck in Windows 7 with my brand new X-Fi Fatal1ty USB Gaming headset, (HS-1000, the one with integrated Sound Blaster X-Fi built into headset).

Windows 7 generic drivers install and work, but you only have basic headphones with a Mic. No additional features such as CMSS or 3d gaming, or any other Soundblaster features.

Creative's beta driver for Win 7 is 12 months old, and also fails to enable any advanced features.

Bought a special advanced Creative audio product and ended up with a low end basic POS.

Drivers. Something Creative has never done well.

Yay I get to double post this crap.

Creative could make working drivers for non x-fi products but it really isn't economically beneficial for them so they haven't. there is also a change in the way sound is processed in windows 7 that makes creative cards sub par. I am guessing that this contributes to the driver issues.

Go here for some help setting up your older audigy card.

Here is some stuff that Creative doesn't want you to have. the drivers in here will be old.

I'm running an Audigy 2 ZS on Win7 x64 with no issues.

I'm running the same card on Win7 32-bit and I am seeing issues. somehow once in a while the card starts sounding like crap and the speakers are set to 2.1
All it takes to fix it is go in the Creative panel and selecting 5.1, but it's annoying if you're in the middle of a movie or playing a game with friends online for example.

The only reason I stick with it is because it's the platinum version with a front panel and I would lose the front panel (useful to plug speakers in and out) if I went with the sound chip on my mobo.
