Creative G500 or Logitech Z-5500?

I'm in the market for a set of 5.1 speakers and I am debating between the G500's or the Z-5500s. Newegg has the 5500's for $219 right now ($50 off) so they are priced the same as the G500s, but I doubt the savings will last for much longer.

I won't have these in a large room right now, but a small bedroom, and because there are people on the other side of the wall I won't be cranking them up full blast. But I would like to be able to use the speakers in the future when I get a bigger place without neighbors. I will be using them with a 24bit Soundblaster Live (onboard my MSI K8N) right now, I will probaly upgrade that in the near future if it doesn't perform well. I will be using them for games, movies and a little music.

The reviews for the G500 all seem postive, except for the fact that it doesn't have a digital decoder. Right now I don't need one, I don't plan on hooking up an external DVD player or anything like that. But again, it would be nice to be able to do this in the future. From all the reviews I've read the G500s sounded great, but in some cases the 5500s didn't. The instance some said the bass was a little slow to respond on the 5500s. Can anyone comment on the sound quality of the 5500s? Or the G500s?

Is there any reason to pick one over the other besides the fact the Logitech has a digital decoder?

Never heard the G500, but I can testify that the Z-5500's will WOW just about anybody. I guess its all about your budget. Good Luck.

edit: if they are same price I can almost guarantee the z-5500's will sound better. the digital 96Khz sound is so crisp and responsive for all media

The thing that is worrying me about the 5500s right now is will I be able to turn them down enough so it doesn't irritate my neighbors? I live in an apartment with pretty thin walls.

Do the G750s use the same satellites and sub as the G500s or something?

of course you can turn them down, no worries about irritating neighbors with any system.. plenty of base and volume controls (in fact, the wireless remote is real sexy for the digital decoder)

I think you have the two best options in this range picked out.

If you do plan on hooking up to a HT system with a DVD player eventually, it seems like the decision is made for you.

Would you be able to try out any of these options for yourself in a store in your area?

I just got the Z-5500's for x-mas and all I can say is WOW!!!

I'm amazed with these speakers!

I don't think you'll be disapointed if you decide to get them.

I tried Dolby Digital DVD's aswell and DVD's with dts, and it's simply amazing!

I went ahead and ordered the 5500s while the price was low, $210 + $33 shipping is a great price.

Will my onboard Creative 24bit Sound Blaster Live be alright for now?
