Creative Labs CD-RW 8x4x32x for 149.88 at Office Depot

At my local office depot the creative labs cd-rw was marked down to 149.88. Supposedly it is a discontinued item and they will not be getting anymore in.

I went to two Southern California Office Depots today but the drive was still priced at $249 at both locations.

Vincent, if you are near the La Verne Office Depot (near Pomona) pick up your drive there. I just got mine for about $162 after taxes. It looked like they had two more left. The MFG list price is $299.99.

I found a news group post that said Plextor made them but the specs don't match so I can't confirm that. I can confirm that the price should be everywhere.

It is definnetly not Plextor. First of all the buttons/led/face plate doesn't match up. Second the buffer is 2mb vs 4mb.

I have an Imation 8/20X which is the same as the Plextor 8/20X even flashed the firmware over so its recognized as a plextor. My friend has the creative drive, its ok but it can't beat SCSI do anything while burning (hehe play Q3a) and i don't think it works w/ Clone CD

Where's the La Verne OD? I know there's an Office Max on Bonita Ave, but I don't recall any OD's in the area... The nearest OD to me as far as I can tell is in Montclair on Central Ave. near the 10 underpass.

Buy.com has the Plextor IDE 8x4x32 CD-Writer at only $184.95 and one can use the free shipping coupon. Also there is no tax for out of state customers. So for slightly more you'll get a much better drive.

They say that the Creative Labs Blows pretty hard if I recall.. I could be wrong

now that I recall it was the 4x4x24 the railed on... THEY LOVE THE PLEXTOR... just like the one in my box...

*edit* BTW how is everyone finding this drive? I was reading reviews on cnet and they aren't very supporting. But the way Cnet reviews are set up I don't know if I am reading reviews on the model 8432, 6224, or 2224. If not I am wondering if I should mosey on over to CompUSA to pick up the TDK VeloCD they have on say for $50 more (their reviews were better, and it's a plextor).
