Creative Labs settlement...

I was a sucker a few years ago with the Audigy Platinum I. Never again! That has more digital distortion/hiss than a rattle snake.

Because it is a gamer's card. Don't get me wrong... I too have an Audigy 2. However, compared to some other cards, such as the M-Audio's, Creative is aweful (gaming aside).

I have one of the early Audigy 2s and I clearly remember reviews that said the exact same thing about them. I don't think the audigy line could actually do what it was claiming until like the third revision maybe ZS?

Hey I qualify for this ... just found my reciept too. I kept it because between Creative and CompUSA they screwed me out of $120 in rebates. But reading the settlement there is a very short window to act:

"The deadline to submit this Claim Form is September 22, 2005.* "
"Your claim is subject to validation by Creative. Your claim will not be processed until after the Effective Date of the settlement which will not occur until July 24, 2005 at the earliest."
* Subject to change by the Court.

Think this will include cambridge soundworks speakers? Its owned by creative and theres a direct link between from Creatives site.

Looking at the claim form, it does not seem that the Audigy OEM version is included in the list, so I am guessing it is ineligible.

It doesn't specifically say so, but it lists every retail model of the audigy as valid...so I wasn't sure.

It is a genuinely garbage settlement (except for the lawyers) . . . i seriously doubt you would want up to $62 off on the full MSRP of Creatives overpriced nextCard . . . you can have mine

This settlement is a real laffer. You can find these cards on sale for less than what Creative is being "forced" to sell at a discount.

Still, the trial attorneys assumed the risk and expense of filing the suit so I guess its only fair that they should profit from a favorable ruling. From Creative's side, they come out pretty good too, especially if all the "victims" exercise their 25% discount options because there is no middleman. The discount is from full MSRP. Creative probably gives away that and more in the usual margin so the retailer can make a profit.

This reminds me of that movie with david schwimmer where he's the doctor that invents the bre@st implant. Once teh FDA decides they are unsafe he offers a surgery to take them out and replace them with saline ones. All the poor patients are like 'So I have to pay you to take them out?!?!?' That's us and Schwimmer is creative. What a55hat comes up with these settlements. Do they even know what a sound card is? No settlement should require us to purchase something else from the at fault manufacturer. That'd be like getting a recall on your car but to fix it you have to buy another car.

i just filled out my claim on the website today and received an automated confirmation.

not impatient (as i filled it out today) but just curious when i might see a coupon

Just an update, I received my coupon today. So July 24th does not appear to be the earliest you will get it. It doesn't expire for a entire year which is pretty good.

Also, it can be used on anything in Creative's store, not just sound cards.

Ditto/Same Here...now all I have to do is wait for CLabs website to run a sale on the Creative's New X-Fi Audio Processor or the Giga works cheaper then I can get elsewhere

I think I'm going to pick up an EM-U 1212M. EM-U products seem to be sold at retail everywhere online since none of the discount retailers sell them. $150 for a 1212M looks like a great deal to me.
