They have the "piece of crap proprietary creative plug," but you can get a receiver for about $100 that accepts SPDIF connections and connects to these speakers flawlessly.
but then your still locked into using a specific type of creative sound card with a specific type of speakers.

you can't even use creative speakers with a creative intregrated sound on a motherboard because apparently creative doesn't even use a universal connection setup across their own product line.

it really sucks having your sound influence your future computer upgrades because creative won't even be universal with their own products lines. :disgust:

Crap I already bought these, and I think they will be arriving today.
will these speakers work with this system? Or will I have to buy a new soundcard??

They will work with almost any sound card that has 5.1 sound. They just work "better" with the Creative Audigy. They worked with my Dell onboard 5.1 sound card. Too bad about the hissing otherwise they would be great speakers.

For those that are having "hissing" sounds with analog sound cards, try muting your sound card's INPUTS in the audio mixer: Line In, Aux, Mic.

They had the hissing sound even when they were not plugged into the onboard soundcard.

Did anyone with the hissing sound try gsalvidar's suggestion?

I'm getting this set from ecost (should be here shortly) and I wanted to know if this fixed it...

That could be normal with any ungrounded (unplugged) speaker line-in.

I don't reccomend buying from them unless you want to go through the hassel of returning them to Ecost or getting an RMA from creative. I'm going to be RMAing my set through Creative today. I think the hissing sound has something to do with the amplifier built into the subwoofer. Even when there is no inputs plugged in the hissing sound persists. I've also tried diffrent power outlets and battery backups. There is a thread in the forum on Creative's website started where other people are having the same problem.

That thread talks about a problem some people are having with a hissing sound but it's not a universal problem that everyone is having with these speakers. Thanks for posting the link though. It was interesting reading.

Got my set last night. Came in a retail box and the annoying hiss. Man, I'm not sure if its worth it now, with that annoying hiss and all.

I received my new speakers yesterday after doing an RMA through Creative. So far there is no noticeable hissing, unless i put my ear right up to the speakers. Only problem with doing the RMA is having to pay for shipping. Turnaround time was about 1 week, not too bad. These speakers do sound very good now.

Did you just rma the subwoofer or the whole thing? If its just the subwoofer, I'll get that underway.
