The whole line, from the MuVo NX 128MB to the 40GB Jukebox, all marked for clearance. Here's what they are at the one near me:

128MB NuVo Mx = $100
256MB " " = $130
30GB Jukebox = $220
40GB Jukebox = $250

My only question, since I have not looked, is the battery replaceable in the jukeboxes?

Okay, first of all.
1. the battery's are replaceable. (unlike ipod's)
2. Only the very old jukebox's use AA battery's, the ones out now a days use a Lithium-Ion battery.

To avoid ambiguity in the responses:
Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen (NX/Xtra, the latest gen IPOD competitors): both use replaceable Lithium-Ion rechargeable batteries.

Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen (USB 2.0, the 1st gen IPOD competitor): uses non-replaceable (well unless your willing to do a little work) Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery.

You can replace the iPod's battery.

Yes you CAN replace the ipods battery, its just not as easy as the Zen Xtra:
press Open button, take out old battery, put in new one...simple as that

Here is a comparison: Zen Xtra install VS Ipod install

Thats not to say that the Ipod's battery is that much more complicated to install, I'm just highlighting that Creative actually made it a point to make their battery easily replaceable for the average consumer. Although I'm happy to see that the millions of ipod users aren't screwed now, and that $50 price is pretty damn reasonable.

exactly what i was thinking. hehe.
plus i doubt AA batteries can last long decoding mp3s.

Just a heads up - I cannot verify this, but after Christmas the 256MB one still had a $50 MIR on it. I cannot verify that it still does though - it's no longer even listed on Best Buy's website.

Here is my little review of the player:

Well I picked up my player last night and have been fiddiling around with it today.

When I first picked it up and just listened to the included free classical sample music, I wasn't impressed that much. The volume didn't seem to be that loud.

But this morning I threw some of my own songs on it and put on my Grado SR-80's...WOW!!!! This player's sound quality is downright amazing! It sounds good both with the EAX Rock EQ or with the EQ completely off. Furthermore, the player was able to drive my SR-80's with absolute ease, which is pretty remarkable because most recommend an amp with the SR-80's when used with a portable set up. Hell, I might go as far as saying that the player sounds better than my Audigy 1 OEM sound card in my computer!! Finally, tonight I hooked up the player to my portable friendly Sennheiser PX-200's (which I slightly modified by using additional pleather pads to get a better seal) and it sounded amazing again. I can clearly see why this player is so highly touted for its sound output.

The Jog Dial is pretty decent (after getting used to it). I've successfully mastered vertical scrolling with it. It does seem to be a little sticky when pushing it inward to select a song/menu item, but nevertheless the player is pretty easy to navigate. The player may not be as small as the Ipod or Karma (the Karma is another great player), but it seems miniscule to me as my previous portable player was a hefty Rio Volt SP-150 MP3 CD player. The player fits my hand perfectly, any thinner and holding it would be akward.

Also, kudos to creative for providing Nomad Expolrer software with the player! While it probably isn't as good as Red Chair's Notmad Explorer, its plenty for my uses. No need to use Creative's crappy MediaSource software...just use the Nomad Explorer to directly drag and drop files (music, images, etc) to the player. I had a bit of trouble to get my computer to transfer at USB 2.0 speeds, but I eventually switched the player to connect to another usb port on my computer and it connected at USB 2.0 speeds.

Some don't like the case provided by creative, but I think its pretty well made and protects the player well. The only problems with it is that it doesn't have a cut to view the screen (I may change that with an exacto knife if I'm feeling lucky someday), and that its hard to button the case as it fits the player too tight (it just needs a bit of stretching/loosening).

Battery life seems pretty good, and replacing the battery (if the time should ever come) is easier than replacing AA batteries (I'm serious see this installation instruction). Furthermore, batteries are only $39.90 from this site.

So far so good. I'll keep playing around and testing my player for the next few days before I decide to get the 4 year warranty....but for now all I can say was this was a great deal!

Here is a good site to know and visit frequently:nomadness.net Zen Forum

And if you want to upload your own picture to the player to flash at startup or as a screensaver here's how: Uploading your own picture

Off to upload my 8 gigs of music! Good luck with your players guys and gals...

there is actually a protective plastic screen in between the layers of the OEM case... so if you do x-acto out a window, you will have a protective cover. no, you do not need an amp for the sr80... it is efficient and has resistance of only 32ohm... it can be driven from the ipod as easily as the zen

(tho i conceded the zen is a tad bit "stronger")

Ah I stand corrected, I guess it's only apple that just dosen't support replacing the battery's on the ipod?

I used to have 1 of the cd player looking jukeboxes, I think I may go pick up the 30gb zen today.

Good new NiMH AAs can run 2000 mAh each, that's 4000 mAh capacity. iPod 2G - 1200 mAh (some newer custom jobs claim 1500 mAh) iPod 3G - 850 mAh Do the maths. http://www.ipodbattery.com/ http://www.imaging-resource.com/ACCS/BATTS/BATTS.HTM

You can't simply add mAh like that, since each battery essentially adds EMF to the same 2000 mAh current. If you want "proof" calculate the energy in watts from each cell and energy from the combination and compare.

You're kind of right - that's why I invited you to do the maths yourself. A typical newer NiMH battery already provides more mAh than a small Li-On battery, albeit at at lower 1.2 voltage.

The typical Li-On uses a Pouch Cell., very efficient but the iPod's pouch is quite small, especially for the 3G models. To properly calculate the quantity of "energy" emitted from a battery, or series of batteries, with modern electronics using a switching power supply then you need to move away from mAh and instead use Joules, J (Watt-Seconds). A Joule is one Amp, at one Volt, for one Second. I believe that the iPod uses quite an intelligent switcher, so it manages its demand curve from its small cells very well.

If you really want to do the maths on combining NiMH in cells, both series and parallel, this is a good place to start.

Can this Jukebox act as an external hard drive? If so, can it act as one without the AC adapter too? I'd be all over this if it were so.

Yes it can, but you must install software first. WindowsXP will not recognize it if you just plug it in the USB port without installing some software or setting up the windows power toys for it.
If you install the included Nomad Explorer, you can just drag and drop files using windows explorer.
Also, the AC adapter isn't necessary to connect to the computer (it can run on the players battery power), but keep in mind that if you are transferring data and your battery dies...well thats not good at all.

I have found one thing I do not like with my Xtra...it doesn't recognize .m3u winamp playlists (maybe this will be fixed in the future?), so Creative's MediaSource software is necessary to convert your winamp playlists to be readable by the player.

Even if the iPod uses it's battery very efficently, the full battery on it doesn't last as long in comparison to many other players on the market. My dad returned his because it couldn't last a full shift at work... not to mention the Zen had better sound quality. These prices are warm but it's hard to find these players in stock usually.

They dont have FM you are right (which I dont really care about since the reception always sux on little players anyway)

But they DO have voice recording.

^ I am a computer consultant and am all over the place, I would like to use the Zen (extra HD space, prob 10-15gb) to backup computers when I need to. However a external "mobile" 40gb USB drive is $150+ish and I dont know if I can justify spending the extra $95 for it to act as an MP3 player. Since I am starting to move to doing consulting with my business all of the time starting monday, since I have built up a nice clientele, know that I could need it, but am not positive, so I dont want it to end up as a "personal" purchase with company funds since it would not be moral nor ethical. It would be nice to have, but $250 is a little out of my "do I need it or not" range.

I know I will NEVER be able to justify the Ipod, I had one before for about a week then resold it because of the cost so I figured this would be in my range, but I am already having second thoughts.
