Now that mine has shipped, and there's no threat of my order being cancelled, here's the news:

Gateway is one of the few companies that has this in stock. It's in stock for $299.99 Furthermore they have a coupon available elsewhere (and easily searchable on Gooogle) that allows for 10% selected items. Included in this list of selected items is the Jukebox Zen. I thought what the hell, and tried to apply the coupon to the just-released Zen NX. And whaddya know - it worked! So:

Nice MP3 player. I had the old Zen USB 2.0 20GB version. It was a bit bulky but the new model is supposedly smaller. Built well and you don't have to be so delicate with it like an iPod.

Yes, and the sound is markedly better too. That and you can alter pitch of the song on the fly which is cool as hell. I refuse to succumb to consumer brainwash - an Ipod is not worth double the price for less storage. Sorry.

I went through 3 MP3 player before just buying one of the refurb 15gig ipods (thank god for Ebay!)... my god, this ipod is fantastic... I adore it.

welp, there's ppl that like sexy and here's ppl who are pratical. i mean y do ppl shop @ banana republic or armani when target's clothing is way cheaper and does its job better. as some would call it more bang for their buck.

i really like the ipod cause it's slim and sexy, but i personally dont have the money to waste it on it yet. call it brainwash, call it anything. it's just human nature.

$255 (not in stock) from buy.com. I saw it at a bestbuy recently, it looks to be the exact same size as the old zen to me. Different color, and I couldn't tell the weight, but no big size difference.

got it today and charging it now.
and now the zen is for 100 cheaper.

THe ipod is smaller and nicer looking, if that's important then keep it. It's also a rough ride returning stuff to dell...

Tax kills it for me. Amazon is cheaper.

techdepot has a $20 off $200 coupon listed on techbargains
it ends up being $280 from there with the coupon.

since gateway and etc. all seem to charge 8% tax, i think the best deal is the tech depot if you are in CA

Amazon has it, it keeps going in and out of stock or something. That page will eventually show an "add to cart" button for amazon, keep an eye on it. Mine was ordered and shipped from them, not OD.

I thought about the zen and all after I had bought my ipod from dell, but in the long run I think the ipod is definitely MUCH sleeker...

If you compare the two of them in person you'll see that they weren't even close. The NX does seem to slim the Zen down quite a bit, but 50% thicker doesn't SEEM like a lot until you have both units in person.

And I paid just $290 for the ipod from dell after coupons...for the 15GB one with the dock, and truth be told 15GB is probably enough =P
