Alls I know is they both didn't work with my MSI K7 Master-S. Running Win2k then I upp'd to Win XP, then down the Win 98. WOrked .... almost... under Win98 but something would snap and cause the thing to generate about 5000000000000000000db of "snap crackle pop" all of a sudden.

In all I spent abooOOT 7 hours total on the phone with SB Tech and 3 solid weaks on every irc tech chan and tech forum known to man. And done/followed every official/unofficial fix know to man. Tweaked drivers, vd files, registry, bios. I actually went throught all this crap more because it was a challenge, has after about 2 weeks with the SB Gamer X 5.1 which was returned for another... I order a TB Santa Cruz. I then actually got the change to try the Audigy and pretty much the same thing..

I even had 2 MSI K7 Masters available to me. Same situation with both.

By the end of it all I threw in the TB SC and it works great, moved back from Win98 to Win2k still works. I'll come to the conclusion the the "via sb" bug bites...

Boo for Via and and SB. For not tackling whatever issues exist between them and making life easier for the users.. Since both companies pretty much have strong holds over the market.

The Audigy is sexy though... i must admit. The layout and gold connectors and such n such and supposed features and such and such... shame i couldn't get it working..

During my troubles I came across alot of people with via chipsets (686b) working fine.. but hey... i'm a loser

They also proved that basing sound card design on a powerful DSP, such as their EMU10K1, allowed for driver upgrades, in the form of LiveWare, to supply many improvements.

What driver upgrades????????:|

I hope they don't use that same old sell with the Audigy Cards "your future is protected" - three years later im still waiting. The only way to get anything more out of my Live is to sell it and buy an Audigy - future proof? yea, right

I just got an Audigy XGamer yesterday. From my limited experience it sounds slightly better than my old Live Platinum and it runs fine for me in Windows 2000. I have oly tried it with Unreal Tournament and the 3D sound is a little better. Oneextra note is that the LiveDrive from my Live Platinum works with the Audigy so Ican still use the front headphone jack.

Right now, the Santa Cruz has dropped to $59 (at my local CompUSA) from the previous $79 on the retail package. The Hercules XP is now around $109 (NewEgg) for an OEM version. With equal features, price and compatibility becomes the deciding factor.

Wrong!! The GTXP DOES NOT have the same features as the Santa Cruz!! The GTXP only fully supports 4.1 systems. There is no "VersaJack" to plug in a 1/8" minijack for the center channel.

Also, I'm not sure that Creative said the SB card was "future proof" but their LiveWare program helped a lot and gave that thing 3 solid years of being on top of the sound card industry. There's your "future proof."

Yeah--I would love my GTXP if they had good drivers!! :disgust:

I know they're supposedly releasing much better drivers for it next month but I need the 3 1/8" minijacks so I could either buy the GTXP 6.1 (will probably have bad drivers for it) or the Audigy. >>planning on buying the PM 5.1 speakers soon<<

<< ive had both AE and AUDIGY and if u going to use win 2k i recommend audigy >>

The remote control software that comes with the Platinum eX is kinda screwy on my Win2K system. Apart from that, everything else works fine.
