Thanks. Thing is, I'm not sure if that's DIN plug he replaces that's the problem. It just stopped turning on, which a lot of Klipsch 5.1 owners say they had happen.

I actually picked up the X-Fi Titanium for $69.99. that was certainly not a great deal but its not much worse than the best prices I have ever seen for it online. the Titanium is a better card but it is not as suited to gaming and that is all I care about from a sound card.
well the Titanium card's focus was more on just gaming where as the HD is more of a pro audio card that has features I do not need or care about. and yeah I guess if you had a regular 2.1 or 5.1 system the HD card would more of hassle.Does that fall within that narrow '5.1/7.1 analog speaker' situation when you say not as suited for gaming?

anyway if you see my later posts, I went ahead and also got the HD card since it went to 47 bucks. at 83 bucks I was not interested in it for my needs. it would be silly to keep the $69 Titanium card with the HD being cheaper. plus since I use head phones, the 2.1/5.1 setup is not an issue.

I saw the price was raised to $110 at my Best Buy when I went back a week later to exchange my HD for the Titanium.
many audiophiles are full of it in my experience and can be easily fooled. again though there is a MASSIVE difference when using headphones and playing games. Realtek headphone virtualization is garbage compared to CMSS. and again the Realtek onboard sound can not even get to high enough volumes with headphones. you can use that sound equalization setting which helps with movies and music but it will ruin games because all the sounds you need to be louder will be at the same volumes as everything else. so really it takes nothing more that simply firing up a game to see the massive difference over onboard with headphones. and btw I have tries using 2.1 and 5.1 systems with different onboard sound and they all produced some type of interference or noise that was not present when switching over the sound card.lol @ "audiophiles" in here.
I bought an Auzentech Prelude 7.1 when it was on sale to replace my onboard Intel HD Audio. I had my audiophile neighbor come for a comparison. I first put the onboard on, and then when it was time to switch, I plugged it back into the onboard. He claimed he heard drastic differences. The soundstage was much wider, the highs were clearer, he said. Placebo is a helluva effect.
I would recommend spending the money on better sound reproducing equipment. A $200 set of headphones is going to sound VASTLY different than a set of $100 ones. I would not recommend getting a sound card of this price unless you plan to hook something that costs ~$500+ to it. You'd simply be much better off getting better audio equipment.
Although, I must say $47 is a smoking hot deal for this card.
why would you want to exchange the HD for the titanium?
