(If anybody already made threads regarding this one plz pardon me.)

Hi. I don't write much here but.. I just got my creativelabs cd-rw blaster (12/10/32)from computers4sure.com for $169.00 -$10.00(coupon) = $159.. (Part#:S1108754)
I had to visit brands4less.com to get free shipping MIR deal tho. Also had to call Computers4sure.com to activate $10 coupon. When I tried to check out with that coupon code, the coupon disappeard. Maybe that coupon is only for new customer. Once I called CSR, she let me use that coupon w/o any problem. Try other websites for that coupon.

So far so good but I also read that renaming this cd-rw to plextor is possible =). I think getting plextor @$159 is pretty good deal. It also comes with Nero burning Rom and Prassi or whatever CD-w software.(This Nero version doesn't work with other cd-rw.) Burning 1 700M CD-r took me a little more than 7 min.

BTW here's a catch.. I remember that for old creativelabs 8* cd-rw, they started to ship plextor and then changed to many other manufacturers later and that pissed off many ppl. Maybe I was lucky this time. Some feedback is needed.. Let ppl know if 12/10/32 cd-rw blaster of yours is plextor or not. To know if yours is plextor, check your manufacture's label on the bare cd-rw and search for "TLA #". Whatever this number means, only plextor uses that number for their cd-rw. Mine is TLA # 102. I don't know if there's a way to tell plextor without opening the box.

Also I heard that plextor 12/10/32 cd-rw with TLA # 101 has some trouble reading sub-channels. I wonder if mine will work or not. Some enlightment will be appreciated.

Hope it's a hot deal..

And one more thing is currently this drive is available at the CircuitCity for outrageously $260+ + tax. BestBuy.com has it for $179.00 or something but B&M BB's don't seem to carry them. Maybe there's a good chance to pricematch it in CircuitCity cuz they have 110% pricematch policy for local prices. I couldn't find local store carrying this drive tho..

deal on

**OOPS that brands4less.com deal is not MIR. Sorry. Everything is online submission.

I just bought a Teac 12x10x32 w/Burn-Proof here for $146.99 w/free shipping. You can get the retail version of Nero, some extra blank cds, and an IDE cable for $10 more.

I read some of the reviews where the Teac actually beat the Plextor in speed

The Teac did not BEAT the Plextor in speed! It was picked over the Plextor
because it had a BETTER software packege! None of the Adaptacrap!

i think theres a way to tell without looking at the part number. Hold down the eject button while booting your pc, it'll show plextor in your bios bootup...not sure if this works on this model, but works on 8X Creatives.

TEAC did beat Plextor in speed. (access times) Your thinking of TDK that had better software than Plextor. TDK and Plextor are the same drive.

I was searching good deal for plextor for a while, but this deal was the best deal except for the iomega deal. I missed that compusa iomega deal =(. Also read some threads about TDK deal but their $50 rebate didn't seemed to work in buy.com etc. Actually I have called TDK and confirmed that..

In short, considering
1)Even now, there r ppl waiting for their iomega12* and crossing fingers for receiving actual Plextor
2)TDK coupon works only in BB and CC etc..
3)Creative bundles Nero and 1 CD-RW media (It ain't CD-R)

This creative deal is the best deal I know as of now.
One more thing is I don't understand why ppl compare TEAC drives to DA PLEXTOR while there's only $10 difference. Read past threads.

Its a good drive, it beat the plextor in nearly every single speed and bandwidth test ( Comparison here ) Only the awesome drives by Ricoh beat the TEAC (Ricoh is underrated by most-they support every feature Plextor does) ..But what i want to know is will it support CloneCD and other sub-channel software? Also this is a bare drive, not even OEM, no telling where its been or what its been through.

To qualify mycoman's comment regarding Ricoh's, the 7120a which is very common out there does not have burnproof, or Ricoh's similar technology. The 7125a does, but I can't find that anywhere. So unless you are running linux, the 7120a can burn coasters. Too bad too, because they are otherwise good drives and cheap too.

I just ordered one from Buy.com yesterday for $135.95, free shipping. Applied an E-Trade $100 certificate and poof......12X Burnproof for $35.95. I will be interested to see whether it is a Plextor.

Dude, how many times do I have to say this again? Get the Lite-On 12x10x32 drives from Newegg.com. They're about $118 OEM and $125 Retail, shipped. Those ARE Plextor rebadged drives and can be flashed to Plextor.

Are you sure they're rebadged Plextors?... cause all the Plextor rebadged drives like TDK, Creative, Iomega all have the same firmware versions (1.08 is the latest) and can be flashed using the new Plextor firmware update program. The Lite-On drives have firmware versions like LS17, LS22, L31, etc... which don't resemble Plextor revisions. They have BurnProof like the Plextors but not all drives that have BP are Plextors cause BP is licensed from Sanyo, not Plextor... I'm not saying the Lite-On drives aren't good drives but I don't think they're Plextors. People are however saying good things about the Lite-On drives so far, but another thing to consider is that Lite-On is the company that was sued by Sanyo for selling BP drives before passing the BP autorization tests. It took them several tries to pass the tests. I'd pay the extra $10 for a Creative drive that IS a confirmed rebadged Plextor...

This is the new one and it is NOT plextor.

The old model which is supposed to be plextor has the name "RW 121032E"

This one has the string "RW 1210E". Does anyone know who make this?

ProtoColD,

Are you sure that the drive is not a rebagged Plextor?

Mine has the same RW1210E model number that yours has, with no other marks or labels I can identify.

Looking at Plextor's web site, the model number of their retail IDE 12/10/32A burner (ie. the burn proof model) is PX-W1210TA/SW. I wonder if the Creative drive could be an OEM Plextor, given the similarity in the model numbers.

In the end, I don't really care, though. It flawlessly burned the first five Fuji CDRW discs I threw into it without a problem, even while I was running Microsoft Office97 and logged onto the internet with Internet Explorer 5.5 to post this while I was burning.

Now, I just have to get my Toshiba 12x DVD drive onto a separate controller so I can do drive to drive copies. Then, I'll be set.

I just got the CenDyne 12/10/32 drive for $149 at Fry's which is the Lite-On w/ model #LTR-12101B

When I go to CenDyne's site and search for firmware upgrades for the 121032it downloads a Ricoh Updater and Firmware Binary for the Ricoh 7120A drive.

They may have changed suppliers, since the drive has got "Burn Proof" in bold silkscreen which is obviously NOT the 7120A. Unfortunately the Lite-On site seems pretty useless for figuring out who makes the drive.
